What map projection are the worldwide maps?

The projection used is quite odd. It clearly isn't Mercator but not Peters either.

I mean look at Kamchatka.

Do any cartographers among us know what projection this is?

North-west of Hawaii. A big island next to a little one.

In real life it's at 28.2072° N, 177.3735° W

It looks like Plate Carree, where the X and Y values correspond to lattitude and longitude. Citation being xkcd's comic on different map projections.
