What if the enemy spams infantry at you, then your tank destroyers start getting destroyed.
Yeah you have all 6 Heavy Tank blueprints like me? Tank Destroyer is the king.
LET ME SAY IT AGAIN AND AGAIN: HEAVY TANKS ARE NOT WORTH THE PRICE.(Everything in this post is assumed to be max-leveled)
There is no incentive at all for me to put efforts on heavy tanks(& medium). Here are a few reasons:
1. Hitpoints
The Tank Destroyer only has 30 hitpoints less than a Heavy, and this can be easily compromised by the outrageously high defensive value of the Tank Destroyer. Tank Destroyer has the same hitpoints as a Medium.
2.Damage
Offensive: Tank destroyers will WIN 1v1 when rivaled by a Medium, and can also badly damage a Heavy in 1v1 combats.
Defensive: Self-explanatory. View the stats. Tank Destroyers will win any 1v1 defensive battle, even if the enemy benefits from any homeland defence bonus.
Infanrtry: Just stack them w/Light or Armored Cars or other motorized and mechanized infantry.
3. Costs
Tank Destroyers are just TOO COST-EFFECTIVE. Especially if your enemy medium-tank spams. Tank Destroyers have low costs when compared to that of Mediums and Heavies. Light and Armored cars (a ha very cheap stuff) will take care of the pesky infantries for them.Research and upgrade costs are also cheap.
4.Speed
Heavies are not blitzkrieg material. So is Mediums. Tank Destoryers have 90km/h speed on plains, even higher than that of Lights and Mech Infantry.
If you have bad economy, invest in Tank Destoryers! Heavy and Medium is simply not for you in this occasion.
USE! TANK! DESTROYERS!!!

I spam mech and mot infantry then
Good response just wanted to point out that tank destroyers have a time and place to be used good luck with your conquests.
Everything has a purpose. Tank destroyers used to be bad in 1.0, now they have more power.
Heavy tanks, I wouldn't suggest someone with limited resources to invest, but in the middle game if they are mixed with infantry/mech infantry/antiair and followed by artillery can win a big battle.
Of course at the right time and at the right place anything can be useful.
Thanks for this analysis. I have taken a break for a few months, playing a pacific map now and am trying to determine what heavy armor class I would need to add to my mix. I never appreciated TD's in COW 1.0 due to their slow speed and poor results in cities vs infantry, but I will give them a try in 1.5.
Being Allied Doctrine, this makes even more sense. That coupled with the fact that I strongly think you need to upgrade armored cars over light tanks due to their speed and stealth detection, and use of air and artillery making ground units defense capability the most important attribute; I (preliminarily) agree with you and will implement it now. Remind me and I will confirm how it went (only day 6 thus far).
Anti Air is much better in 1.5. Not only is it good against planes, but it is effective against tanks too.

Nah I donβt appreciate heavies like in 1.0 i never research them in 1.5
Put one with a militia in a forest for a nasty surprise.... Keep these researched at low rank to build in an emergency.

If you are Finland (which has a lot of forest), a Heavy tank/militia combo is OP. The heavy tanks take out the armor and provide firepower while the militia provides cushioning and takes out the Tank Destroyers.
