Call of War 2.0 Preview

Attention, General!

Exciting news! Today we will give you a glimpse of the upcoming visual redesign of Call of War. Together with the previous gameplay changes of CoW1.5 this visual overhaul will form the brand new Call of War 2.0!

The visual overhaul contains two major areas: A revamp of the user interface and a redesign of the map itself. The new map draws inspiration from military maps of the time. It makes the game more exciting and gives you the feeling of commanding your troops on a realistic strategic map with real terrain elements merged into it.

The revamp of the user interface gives CoW 2.0 a state of the art, modern look. It makes navigating the game more intuitive by restructuring over 140 gameplay screens and menus. All adjustments were made with the platform you use in mind, whether that is on mobile or desktop. Switching between the two will become easier, with many visual elements now being shared.

Call of War 2.0 is scheduled to be released on all platforms on Tuesday, July 19th.

You can already check out all of the changes by switching to the Beta-Client in your account settings on desktop.

As a Frontline Pioneer (beta tester/player) you will automatically get a taste of the new map and UI on mobile and desktop, as they will be the default version in beta games leading up to the release.

Share your feedback with us here on the Forums and on Discord.

We look forward to hearing about your first experiences with the new client, until then best of luck on the battlefield!

Your Bytro team

UPDATE

We have postponed the planned release date for CoW 2.0 to the 20th of July. This will give us additional time for testing and QA.

When will the latest version finally be released for all players?

The news said that it would be released today on all platforms, on 19 July. So far I haven't seen anything. Both via the normal and the beta client, and there is nothing to be seen of official statements either.

A little more information would be desirable.ยด

Or is and remains that only for frontline pioneers?

itโ€™s 20th

Honestly, the only issue I have is the icon for rare metals. All the other icons make sense and I can understand them in the context of the game, but I find it hard to imagine the British air force needing 900 sapphires to create a division of interceptors. With the new UI going for the style of a WW2 war map, seeing a random blue gem representing rare metals at the top of the screen just feels a bit silly and doesn't really make sense in the context of WW2. Maybe reuse the old icon (like you did for Goods), or create a new one more similar to the old one?
We will explore some other icon possibilities, but this won't make the July 20th release. So you will have to live with the new icon for a little bit at least until we (maybe) change it.

Calling it 2.0 might be a stretch however, more 1.5 with an gfx update since there is no new stuff.
The mechanics update of CoW1.5 together with the graphics update we release tomorrow form CoW2.0. When we initially did CoW1.5 we actually planned to make it CoW2.0 immediately together with a graphics update, but we decided to do the graphics changes later and call the mechanics update only CoW1.5 for that reason. So it was the plan from the beginning to make a CoW2.0 with both elements together.

You guys should really update the call of war wiki.
We will! But it will take some time.

First impression: it is really hard to see the difference between terrain types. Forest is OK, but plain, hills and mountains are way too similar. Maybe, just maybe, I'll get used to it and "see" it when I train my brain for it, but for now, all terrain except forest gets blurred into one.

Also the "coloring" of nations is gone! How are we supposed to see who owns what, especially when there's a lot of border blur?

Some improvements to terrain textures are still planned for the near future.

The coloring of nations still exist, there is a display option for it.

Does the update only apply to new rounds, or also to existing ones? I don't see any innovations or changes yet. Neither via mobile, nor via desktop.
To both new and existing matches, but it will be released on July 20th.

Some good posts in here. I appreciate that you all are continuously monitoring data to try to make the best decisions for the game. While many of the changes recommended here are interesting, I think the most impactful change is whatever brings in new players so that games can run more often (with fewer players going inactive) and, hopefully, more funding coming in to Bytro to continue to develop new enhancements and features--in this way, I think your interests and the interests of the current player base are aligned, and we should embrace any opportunities to potentially increase that player base. I trust your judgment on this and appreciate that you're taking feedback from your current userbase, and I trust that you'll continue to monitor the stats and make adjustments in the future if needed.

Thanks for all the feedback in your post. We actually have a feedback channel on Discord.

Some of the things you mentioned are by design, others we still want to look into, and some are going to be fixed already. So overall it will still improve.

please add so you can see how many units your unit has destroyed. You canโ€™t see it now in the beta version.

Also can you add to your profile so you can see how many of each units you have built?

You can see how many units your army killed. Click on the army name in the army bar after selecting it.

We postponed it to July 20th, as the newspost and forum post says.

I just saw the province list on the mobile app, and you should REALLY reconsider that one. On my screen (iPhone 7), only two-and-a-half provinces are visible. This makes managing production in an expanding empire virtually impossible. I realize the old situation with two tabs was a bit strange, but it is still MILES above this view! Please consider ways to reduce the row height, so more provinces can be viewed in the same screen!

PS - while you're at it, also please reduce the refresh rate of this one... it is really irritating that current sorting get cancelled all the time while you're working with this screen.

You can actually switch back to the old province list layout in the settings. Please view the attached images below.

The refreshing is a bug, should happen in the old client as well then, we will check.

This is probably the stupidest question in the world, but how do you get there? When I press Settings, al I get is this:

When the enemy is driven back, we have failed. When he is cut off, encircled and dispersed, we have succeeded.

ur not stupid!

the label says "los graphics" in BOTH choices.

all you can do is push the button, get out of settings and see what the map changed to.

CoW 2.0 at it's finest!

Are you talking about the province list layout option? That is only for mobile, since you mentioned that you have trouble seeing all provinces on mobile, I posted instructions how to activate old province list layout on mobile. There is no such option on desktop (your screenshot is from desktop mode).

Info regarding the CoW2.0 update

We are postponing the release to tomorrow, July 21st. We will also split up the content of the release. Tomorrow we will only release the new UI changes for desktop and mobile (beta clients), but not the new map graphics. New map graphics will be released several weeks later, after we had enough time testing and optimizing them on beta. More news regarding this will follow. Thanks for your patience!

- 3 years ago we replaced the Canvas 2D map look in CoW with the WebGL 3D map that you see currently in the game. This update has sparked alot of criticism in the beginning, but meanwhile nearly all of the current playerbase has grown fond of the current look. I am sure the same will be true with the new look that we will soon release.

I am not sure where you're getting 'fond' from. It is true that players are used to it, and I agree overall that you made the right choices, however, everyone is still nostalgic for CoW 1.0 and Canvas. (In fact doing an event to be able to play CoW 1 map or something for money, a lot of players would pay for that for sure, especially since the most nostalgic are the adults with wallets in their back pockets)

That is on both PC and mobile. PC: Click on the slider menu in the top right corner (map controls). On mobile its on the right side of the screen.

Hello

I have been a player since 2016

It seems that I don't benefit from the new graphics, I still have the old version concerning the map. ??!

Besides, I find it really disappointing and penalizing to have this mode of interface on PC. This was worked on for the mobile version by sacrificing PC ergonomics. Everything is becoming like this now, it's really unfortunate... Mobile phone, phone again and again...

The new interface makes navigation really difficult and not at all clear concerning the icons... curious choice of the developers...

Why is this update feeling like a terrible mobile to PC port?? The UI is such a step down compared to the previous one, which was smooth and looked good, totally unacceptable for PC players, and what's the harm in letting us choose the have legacy client still????

I think you and the other developers have let your PC players down. Not regarding the late release of the new graphics, I'm referring to the awful new UI in general for PC players.

Howdy, do you think you can bring back unit photoes it added a great deal of fun to see different doctrines units. now it just shows the generic unit image. oups juste notice the option for historical photoe my bad great game btw.

Its ruined the game for me

pz make old ui a toggle. I will be quitting soon if that is not the case.

Why did the Historical Image option change from 'full cover' to a weird small 'taped photo' version... I know it's a small detail but for someone like me with OCD it physically hurts

how about looking after your current player base? this new ui is just a quick reskin of s1914 and could have been something new. GIVE us an option to switch back to 1.5 ui. this update is going to lose your long term player base real quick.. so what is more important keeping long time players or getting new ones who only play one game then quit?

the new version is unplayable from the browser on the smartphone. all too small, both the writing and the keys. you are about to lose a player, not in protest, but precisely because he is unplayable.

Its a mobile game now...

2022 to 2000 graphical ergonomie... wtf...
