Release Notes - 2020-10-06

Attention, Generals!

Today’s release brings new balancing changes and a new version of the popular 25 player 1939 Historic World War map to Call of War!

One aspect of the new balancing that you will notice in a new game round is your popularity with AI countries on a map. Until now, your popularity with each AI nation was at about 67% on the map. This changed now and your popularity with those nations differs from country to country. Don’t worry, they won’t hate or love you right from the start, but your popularity will vary between 50% and 85% now!

For a complete overview of today’s release, please see the following list below:

Balancing Changes:

  • The attack range of Railroad Guns was decreased from 120 to 100.
  • Railroad guns are now available from day 6 instead of day 4.
  • The starting popularity with AI nations varies between 50% and 85% now.

    • Before this change the starting popularity of AI nations was always at ~67%.
    • This change creates more altering scenarios in each game round.
  • Stronger nations no longer receive a popularity bonus with AI countries

  • Smaller nations are more popular with AI countries now, as they are a smaller threat to them.

  • These changes only affect newly created Call of War 1.5 game rounds. Call of War 1.0 game rounds and Call of War 1.5 game rounds created before this update are not affected.

General:

  • The building categories “Unit production”, “Province economy”, “Unit support” and “Special” are now displayed in the build menu of Call of War 1.5 game rounds. This change gives you a better overview about the roles of different buildings.

    • Categories can be expanded and/or hidden on mobile devices by tapping on them.
  • A drop shadow was added to province borders of selected provinces.

  • Country borders are slightly thicker on the map now and a shadow is displayed for coastlines.

  • Improvements were made in the way the game is rendered to increase overall performance.

  • Several report buttons have been removed. You can still report content by creating a general support ticket and selecting "Player Report" as the ticket category.

  • Several map preview images have been updated.

Bug Fixes

  • A bug was fixed that caused a Fire at Will icon to be displayed for unknown armies that were located at the edge of the fog of war on the map.
  • An issue was resolved that prevented the uprising chance and garrison strength values for conquered and owned provinces from being displayed correctly.
  • A bug was fixed that caused the vision circles of units to be displayed in the wrong size under certain circumstances.
  • An issue was resolved that caused elite levels to display the previous army level icon in the army bar instead of the elite badge.
  • A bug was fixed that caused a magnifying glass to be displayed as the cursor icon when not playing in the enhanced graphics version.
  • An issue was resolved that caused incorrect damage information for convoys being displayed in the army info popup.
We hope you like today’s update and wish you all the best on the battlefield.

Great update, i was wondering can we get a fix on the province list? it's always getting cut off and not everything is showing.

Generally nice update!

Hm... All the range are decreased even if they are built already? 100 is definitely reasonable. Span for 2-3 provinces...

Yes with the scenarios yes. Why don't you add a scenario spin where there is a list of scenarios that your country can get and it is completely random. (It has to make sense.) At the start of each game, those will be given out like a board game and gives your bonus and "not so good" stuff. This AI popularity change doesn't affect the issue of too many AI declaring war. In fact, these are just minor tweaks to make things more complicated and hard because declaring war on one country gets you all the way from 85 to 50 pretty damn easily. Guess what here is what you need to do.

The drop shadow is more of a 3D affect in the game. I think it generally makes it look smart in the game as well as slightly thicker map borders. However, there is that weird line or shadow that is around all island coastlines that could be removed if you look closely. There is a weird overshadow...

I remember the fire at Will icon to be displayed for unknown ranged armies. Is that still true?

Talking about levels. When having a stack, shouldn't the most powerful unit be showing? If it is elite, elite goes first. However, when placing elite units in the water, the convoy transport ships show instead of the naval units. :( This doesn't really make sense at all.

It seems like the damage information has a lag when attacking using ranged units. Several times, it takes couple of minutes to process an attack by by RR gun and my tactical bombers. Technically, Tac Bombers should still have the range after a direct attack on a particular stack.

Thanks!

Hi, depends on which bug exactly you mean and when it happens. This is a news thread though and no bug reporting thread. Can you please make a screenshot of this issue and post it in the bug report sub forum? Feel free to tag me there.

To answer some of your questions:

- As stated in the news, the balancing changes only affect new game rounds. Meaning the range of units in your current game is not changed.

- The fire control icon should not be displayed for unknown armies, no matter if its a ranged army or not.

- yes the strongest unit in a stack should be showing on the map. Could be that in some circumstances elite units have higher priority in convoys than lower level ships. There is no specific logic yet to take care of that. Didnt see any reports on this by others yet so probably not that common of a problem, maybe can get improved at some point.

- no idea what exactly you mean with damage information lag. If there is a bug, please create a thread in the bug report section and explain the problem in more detail and how to reproduce it.

To clarify, 120 is pretty powerful but I will check out 100 too.

Apparently convoys are in no way "stronger" than any other naval units. Perhaps change the priority of elite units when they are in water because elite units show no meter what. Damage information is just a little big delayed and the view just dissapears after attacking. No big deal, just a bit annoying

Holy CoW really has changed after my 3 month break(1 month from forum but I was playing a few matches in august)...

I will check out the new features:)

edit(26 October 2020): I think I will have to read the manual this time, I’ve never read it before so after being afk from CoW for so long ive become a noob again

Edit 2(26 October 2020): I will start playing a lot in December when there is school holidays I have to deal with exams now

hi

why is there a max amount of players allowed in a coalition?

Because otherwise the whole map could team up and the game round would be over. So basically for fairness reasons.
