Resources Reforged - Test it now on Beta!

We will be making important changes to the resource system in an upcoming update. Two resources - Goods and Rare Materials - will be removed from the game. These resources, previously acquired by conquering provinces, will no longer be part of your war economy.
With fewer resources available, competition over the remaining three - Fuel, Food, and Steel - will become more intense, leading to heightened conflict and more meaningful economic choices. By making resources scarcer and more valuable, we give you a deeper, more rewarding strategic experience.

As this shakes up the very fundamentals of Call of War, we want to give our loyal Frontline Pioneers plenty of time to test this update. This is why we have already made the changes available in newly created beta games.
So start up a new beta map, and send us your feedback in our Discord server. This is your opportunity to influence how we iterate on the change before it hits the live servers for all players to enjoy!

With the removal of Goods and Rare Materials, we’ve given all maps a shake-up by redistributing the remaining resources. Discover exciting new opportunities to expand your economic might. We’ve introduced two new setups for rural production: a 4-1-1 layout, where one resource is more plentiful than the others, and a balanced 2-2-2 layout, where all resources are equally available!

To maintain overall cost balance, we also had another look at production costs. We used this opportunity to change the resource needs for different unit types. Before, similar units all used the same resources, but now there’s a lot more variety!
For example, now Interceptors mainly need Food, Tactical Bombers rely on Oil, and Strategic Bombers use a mix of everything. This adds a fun twist to your build orders and trading with allies - planning ahead just got a whole lot more rewarding for the discerning strategist!
We’re excited to see how you tackle these changes, and would love to hear your thoughts - make sure to share them with us right here or on our Discord.
Your Call of War Team!

I feel like now, with the 3-resource system, your starting resource production has a greater effect on what you can and can't build. For example, almost everything requires oil now. And between researching and building day 1 Industry, I hardly have enough oil left for tanks and planes. I normally like to start producing tacs as soon as I can (day 1-2), but if my country happens to not have a second oil city, that's practically impossible.General Sherman wrote:
I'm in a W@W game as North Brazil (Axis) and metal is my tightest resource, but that's probably because I've used a lot of it to build and research MT and LT as well as building tank plants.Bandersnatch wrote:
At least so far; it’s only day 8 and I haven’t really built many armor or naval units.
you need metal only for tanks and rocket artillery , if you dont prefer to play with tanks , metal is worst resource
if you are not gold player , tanks are useless rubbish bins
enemy can fight against you even at plain with war bonds help , outside of this attacking to a city is not a option
so there is nothing for tanks
Such a silly thought

now in games , everyone wants to trade his metal with another thing , noone likes metal , metal is useless
Are you serious? With less resources, each resource is now many times more useful than before.Undaunted wrote:

navy is useless thing , tanks for gold users , you need metal only for rocket artillery and industries at urbanPhillip Bosley wrote:

I love it when people who are bad at the game loudly proclaim how much they value certain units or resources.
mate you are playing mostly 10-22p maps with team , you never join a big map without a teamz00mz00m wrote:

you don't join even world war maps I love it when people talk about game they don't join as solo even to world war maps
weren't you a rambo and war hero ?
can you join to world war maps as solo with your second account ??? I guess no , it will effect your stats and you will be sad LOL
playing x1 with a team at small maps including many rookies are very comfortable , so keep to increase your %95 win rate with your team at small maps and don't mess to people
Interesting, even in this thread different players claim that either Food, Oil or Metal is the scarcest resource for them. Also in Discord I have seen widely different takes on this question so far. So to me that indicates that it is rather balanced and depends a lot more on the playstyle / build order of the player. So maybe if you find yourself lacking with a specific resource, an adjustment in your build order is advised.
This is a "bug" in the old map version of the Europe map, in the new map version all is correct and converted to the other resources. If you create a match please choose the new Europe map at the bottom now. Although the old map version one should have been disabled by now.Carking the 6th wrote:
It is made even worse because they idiotically decided to make certain cities literally useless instead of converting them to the remaining resources.

The true answer may be more nuanced. It's harder to maintain a resource balance now.
For example, all ranged units use the same resources. If you need ranged units (artillery, rocket artillery, cruisers, battleships) you're going to need lots of metal and a bit of food. There's no way to get around it, like there was in the past with rocket artillery mostly relying on rares.
Later in the game, you want to build planes and SPAA, and guess what they all use the same resources again. In the past, if you had a rares deficit you could still build a mobile army and protect it with SPAA. Now you can't. Planes and SPAA use the same resources, lots of oil, and a bit of food.
The resource needs hit the same spots at the same time. It's harder to even out the usage. Harder to make intelligent compromises.
I see who complain about resources they always play 10-22p small maps , I have doubt even you guys can open nuclear research before game end and complain about spaa , planes too expensive
you guys need around 400 points to win LOL and join always with teams , it is just 400 and you have half of points at the beginning with your team
people at x4 with 100p maps can produce easily everything it is more competitive and noone crying about resources because resources are everywhere
and yes we don't care trade ambargos because we don't play against inactive countries to increase win rate
I love when small map heroes are complaining about resources and give up game

Just finished a CoN map which was active till the bitter end with ultimately 1 very high level and skilled player as my last opponent and a number of active others on each side that were wiped out in the proces.
It was a great map with a great fight till the end and all of it on the knife's edge, which was only won on points by me bc of good timing, but could have gone on for days on end if not.
Currently I am in WaW which had a ton of rubbish players and though I am nr 1, I will join a coa and close the game, bc it is boring as hell.
And speed maps? Well, some people have RL obligations and speed is just not for them. On top of that it is different game type, requiring a different playstyle. It is not at all comparable.
So, gratz that you are great on speed maps. Doesn't change that the resource update sucks beyond imagination and that the sales story with this update is nothing but an attempt to 'spinn' it as if it were an upgrade.
It is just another downgrade of the game. Period.

Reducing the number of resources removed a core element of the game, where managing your resources to your needs was an intrinsical part to becoming a major player on a map.
This simplification of the game ofc causes new problems to some, but mostly it is just a dumbification.
But since this is the way we are going, I would like to repeat a suggestion for Bytro that was done elsewhere:
- reduce resources to 1
- reduce unit types to 1
- reduce provinces in a country to 1
- reduce continents to 1
- reduce strategy requirements to 0
Maybe then it will be simple enough for the 12yr olds?
And the player wishing to throw most money at it can win always?
That would be the ultimate evolution of COW anyways, progressing the way we do now....

Trying to have an intelligent conversation here, without being accused of sandbagging or reading another doomsday post about evil devs destroy the game on purpose.
Can we all take a breath?
Even if there is an “evil organization” it would moreso be the shareholders and investors. But considering Stillfront is struggling so hard right now I do not fully blame them for desperately trying to make back their losses. A shame the market doesn’t promote quality in games and media instead of general attention grabbing slop. The developers of the game don’t deserve to suffer seeing their hard work slowly degrade while pressured by the community they’ve served for a decade and the people they rely on to feed their families.
