@Paramunac : great explanation, instead of the trollish teenager oneliners I see occur in this topic.
You raised my interest for Person of Interest, Dont know if I have it somewhere to watch here in the Netherlands (legally), but I might give it a shot. Usually I have reservations regarding the 13-in-a-dozen police/detective shows, as most of them are the same in style and type of cast.
I voted Game of Thrones and House of Cards. GoT is basically a fantasy fans dream come true, and there is not a single episode I didnt find engaging. Of course there are 'lesser' episodes, but even those are better then 95% of all the other stuff out there imho. Just watched the latest S6:E9, and boy thats a great episode, fantastic camerawork in the Bolton/Stark battle, which even gives Braveheart a run for its money (obviously not the greatest battle in film history, the battle for Helms Keep, that one simply cant be beaten).
House of Cards gave me some insight in how the behind the curtains work in American politics, the dialogue is Oscarworthy and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Game of Thrones even torns me what I should consider the best tv show of all times - Babylon 5 (90ies show, for all you 30- people out there) or Game of Thrones. They have 1 thing in common (well, a few things actually), different factions, political subterfuge, great battles, an excellent musical score and very memorable characters. GoT does the general story better (budget x 100 helps
), but B5 has something else that GoT doesnt have - humor and 'character chemistry'. And that scary feeling that in 300 years, it would probably be like this if humans finally leave earth to explore.
For all GoT lovers who dont mind low (90ies) production values, B5 is a must see - the first TV show that has a 5 season story arc and paved the way for shows like Lost and GoT. The 4th season is by far my favorite season in tv history, and no GoT, you will not be able to beat that
. And for its time, it had excellent CGI effects in the space battles, like Starwars once was in the 70ies/80ies. Think battles that actually follow physics as they should in space, instead of 'space dogfighting in earth atmosphere'. Yes, I am looking at you every other SF show and movie out there.
Below the line, the vote is still out there. Its like choosing between Lord of the Rings and Starwars (I cant choose
)
End salesrant for a semi-forgotten 90ies show
