Taking over the Forum 1 post at a time.
We all know that last year, the Russian federation held elections in Crimea to determine whether or not the Crimea should Return to Russian administration or stay as Ukrainian territory. The Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to become Russian which provoked tears and tantrums from the western world. I would like to know, do you think Crimea is Russian, or Ukrainian?I

I'm afraid so, James.
sometimes I wonder what is wrong with going off topic
even in a thread that is off topic

oops.
I thought about this earlier... why can't we go off topic if we are in off topic?oceanhawk wrote:

Anyway, to sum it up, Crimea is Ukrainian until a fair referendum is held.
I don't know if this has been said, but if Crimeans want to be Russian, let them be russian. If you try to stop them your basically as good as a dictatorship.
But you can't be sure right now, GBH, like the Czech annexation, there are in fact many of the population there that previously were a part of or have close ties with the annexure, but there's also that fact in both cases there was a rather large army at the border
The vote, it seems, has been previously hailed as an unfair referendum; Russian separatists already controlled Crimea when the vote was taken. Plus, there's a Russian army nearby for anyone who doesn't want to vote to join the Russian Federation.GreatbigHippo wrote:

Is there even any evidence it was unfair?purplepizza117 wrote:

any evidence the election in checzh was unfair?
besides the outcome...

But as people have said, a majority Russian population that also is Pro-Russian is obviously going to vote to join Russia.
Several German refugees from ww1 were in Czech as well, but we'll still never know if they would have agreed
good point

Good point.aDudeWhoDoesThings wrote:

yea right the motherland is 100% better than the capitalist
like look at history, the capitalist nations
USA, Britian
they all were no where near as sucsessfull compared to the motherland
like jezz they had free speech, freedom of choice, and didnt live under a repressive government

The illusion of freedom is all they offer. All these 'free' countries have is the freedom to choose what to be enslaved to. At least in the USSR you know you are being oppressed.

[/quote]Haha, your name is hilarious! But no.
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Crimea region remained as a separate area but over time, the Government of Ukraine was taking over that territory. For that reason, it is the origin of the conflict.
In my opinion, each nation is free to decide their destiny, and to avoid wars between Russia and Ukraine in the future, it would be best that the region of Crimea was independent.
