ISIS. Horrible.

The past is a foreign country.

I haven't heard about them in a while. Whats the skinny on them?

Well,in the beginning ISIL gained large portions of Iraq and Syria however since then they have lost momentum due to how many people they are fighting. They are in conflict with the Iraqi Government, the Kurds,The Syrian Government, the Free Syrian army and the U.S. lead coalition. It's only a matter of time before they start loosing this war.

For those who don't know ISIS stands for Islamic state of Iraq and Syria.

Ukraine is pretty bad too.

Thanks for that, no one in Ireland seems to give a damn about ISIS anymore on the news but talked for about 20 minutes about one damn celeb.

Not really a good thing, being in Ireland.

Nope.

Are you guys still fighting for North Ireland ?

lol, no. The real IRA is long gone, now we just have the IRA version of neo-Nazis. We haven't really been fighting for it for a while, the IRA became a terrorist organisation and did hit-and-runs and bombings in Northern Ireland but most of the time it was just Protestants and Catholics beating the crap out of each other and the police on occasion. If memory serves me right. I think that stuff ended in the 80's or 90's but they still get trouble up their, even over silly little things like a flag.

Anyway, if Ireland did go all in and try to retake it, the UK would support it. I think NI is basically a puppet nation of the UK that they can take control of whenever they want and they have done five or so times when things got messy. If we did fight, we would get crushed. We have around 10 ships in our navy with one pathetic looking main gun on each ship, most of which are destroyers and we have no tanks, the best thing AFV we have is a Mowag I think. Our air force is only piston engine aircraft with little guns and their main job is ground attack with rockets, not air superiority. To top it all off, we can't really declare war without destroying our reputation as we are only meant to be peacekeepers, not warmongers.

I think I am right, I haven't read my history textbook in a while.

What hurt Isis was there full out attack on Ramadi. They weakened themselves by focusing on Ramadi and those fighters in Ramadi are now isolated. They are however making gains in Syria(the Syrian government may actually be collaborating with Isis). If Isis loses Baiji, that would be a huge dent in their income because that is Iraq's biggest oil refinery. Hopefully, they are not able to do a counter push and take the lost land in Iraq back. They also expanded and are taking cities in Nigeria and Lebanon. I have more confidence in the Kurds than the Iraq or Syria governments. They should get their own country after Isis is defeated(Kurdistan).

Wikipedia has the stuff we have for our ground and air force. For the air force, the only offensive thing they can do is CAS. We have 15 AFV that have something bigger than a HMG, which are Mowag Piranha's. 9 have 40mm MG Grenade launchers and 6 have 30mm autocannons. Check the other gear out here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_vehicles_of_the_Irish_Army

Forgot to say, we have 6 of the PC-9 for CAS. We would have 7 but one was crashed into a freaking mountain back in '09. The worst part is, we used to have jets :(

Thanks for informing about whether you guys where still in armed conflict with the UK over North Ireland.

I heard the Iraqi army basically threw down their weapons and ran away when ever ISIL rolled into town.So ISIL then went around and picked up what ever was left.So all those U.S. dollars went down the drain in trying to rebuild and maintain the Iraqi army. The Kurds are the people that really put up a fight against ISIL the problem is the Kurds don't have enough equipment to really push back ISIL.This is what they use for armor.

The Kurds are the main ground forces fighting ISIL in Iraq, my mistake

That armor doesn't look half bad but then they are up against stolen Abrams, aren't they? What kind of tanks are they fighting?

I have no idea what those are but maybe they are T-54/55's and the 12.8cm Pak 44?

ISIS has way better armor compared to the Kurds. The Kurds have stuff that looks like something out of mad max.

Those are definitely soviet ,cold war era vehicles. Might be left overs from Saddam's regime.

Totally agree. They are doing everything against ISIS, and they deserve it.

That happened in Mosul, yes, at the beginning of the war, but it was because the Iraqis stupidly took all of the American weaopons to a place that was barely kilometres away from the frontline. Now the Iraqis are being ttrained by many countries (including Spain), and they are fighting back.

However, the problem is Wahabbi countries in the Arabian Peninsula are financing ISIS, when those same countries are supposed to be allies with the U.S. To win the war against ISIS, we should stop buying petrol from those guys (which ould help stopping climate change) so ISIS doesn't get money.

The past is a foreign country.
