Definition of Continents

Well, I've decided to make an off-topic thread on the definition of continents. I think that the Philippines, India, and the Caribbean should be continents. I mean, they have their own tectonic plates and they have natural barriers from other landmasses.

When I was a kid, the definition of a continent was: in the middle, the influence of the sea on the weather has become neglilible. That made six continents: N. and S.America, Eurasia, Africa, Australia and Antarctica. Caribbean and Phillippines sure don't count by that definition, and India is connected to the rest of Eurasia... so...

I think Greenland should be a continent, because it has its own tectonic plate, and it is bigger than Australia, which is also a continent.

@Andromeda how dare you assume that how things look at a map show their real size!!!

Australia size: 2.97 million miΒ²

Greenland size: 836,300 miΒ²

I'm to lazy to post the link to the website that shows the real size but @Andromeda maybe you should check it out.
