The Titanic War- 1914~1918
The Titanic War was the result of intense military, economic and ideological rivalry between the great powers of the Westland. The deterioration of relations began in 1903, with the disastrous War of the Noran Recreation. The Pegronian Union developed unprecedented hate for the Norans, and the Westland was shocked by the Creation of the Red Union in 1904, mirroring the Noran Union. Its ideology was unacceptable by the Armstris and Pegronians, and both nations interests were threatened by its creation. Both had hoped to grab swathes of land in the destabilisation following the War of the Noran Recreation, but instead were slapped in the face with the creation of a great power.
Relations continued to go south in the next years. The URI won an astounding victory in the War of 1904, giving it absolute control over the surrounding region. The Nation also became communist like the Red Union, and allied itself with the Red Union. A naval arms race began between the Armstris Empire and Red Union, which made a naval conflict virtually inevitable. In 1910, the slow annexation of the Blacklands by the Armstris saw Lesotho join the Noran/Inamortan Alliance. Beeth and Anglia, while both puppets of the Armstris, had populations extremely anti-Armstris, the same applied to Azernia.
The West Pact or Entente Pact, formed between Mesra, Pegronian Union, Dora and the Armstris Empire was very fractured. By 1912, both Dora and Mesra had virtually left the pact, and the Pegronians and Armstris only remained allies due to a common enemy. In 1913, Dora virtually dismantled its armed forces, making its entry into a war impossible. Meanwhile the URI created the West League, a formal and strong alliance between its puppets, itself, the Red Union and Lesotho.
The final straw that sparked the Titanic War began with the Blacklands Uprisings. Beeth, Anglia, Azernia all revolted against the Armstris. This was a great insult to the nation, Fu Hong having said centuries before that “Our flawless Empire does these nations a great favour by not fully occupying them and wiping out their populace.” Anglia, Beeth and Azernia were all fully occupied, and somewhat following Fu Hong’s words, the Azernian Genocide began. Following these events, Lesotho and the URI ordered partial mobilisation, encouraged by the Red Union. The tensions became unbearable, and hell broke loose when the Inamortans entered some military assets into Azernia to “save the populace from extermination.”
This action was due to bolstering Inamortan confidence, and was meant to start a war. The Red Union assured them that it would join in any war, and the Inamortans saw their chance upon Dora’s demilitarization. So the act was simply an excuse to spark a war and not be blamed, so as to stop international intervention. The resulting war was unprecedented in the carnage it caused and destabilised the world.

The Armstris Empire declared war upon the URI February 3rd, the Red Union on the 5th and all of the URI’s puppets on the 6th, Lesotho on the 8th. The Red Union declared war on the Armstris Empire on the 5th and the Pegronian Union on the 6th. The Titanic War had begun, and it would become one of the greatest conflicts of the 20th century.
Technology of war in 1914
The planning and conduct of war in 1914 were crucially influenced by the invention of new weapons and the improvement of existing types since the past wars. The chief developments of the intervening period had been the Self-Propelled Artillery and the Rapid Fire Rocket Artillery, as well as the Devastators. The Red Union was the inventor of the RF Rocket Artillery, but it had infant versions only, for example the H.3. Meanwhile the Armstris Empire possessed the greatest Devastator Fleet, 300 Emperor Class Devastators. The Armstris were also the only nation to produce SP Artillery, a new kind of mechanized artillery that “rained death upon tanks”. These technologies would be prime factors in the outcome of the war.
The Initial Stages of the War
Initial strategies
The Ember Plan
The Ember Plan was the initial Inamortan plan for a lightning victory over the Armstris First Colonies. General Richton Ember oversaw the planning in the months leading up to the war. The attack was to compromise of 25 infantry divisions (250,000 men), 10 armoured divisions (3,000 tanks and armoured cars), 500 Artillery pieces and 800 planes. The Inamortan forces would sweep south and wipe out the weak Armstris Garrison in Free Azernia, and then dismantle her ownership of Occupied Azernia. The Plan’s failure would not matter, since if the offensive was stopped or pushed back, the Inamortans were not in danger due to the buffer space provided by their puppets the Eastern Alliance and Tropia.
However, the war came sooner than expected and only 12 infantry divisions were available. The Inamortan generals panicked, not wanting to fight advanced Armstris equipment that would arrive to reinforce the enemy soon, and so launched a badly coordinated offensive all the same. The result was disastrous. 7 infantry divisions were cut off and encircled, 5 others were decimated. It was a major Armstris victory in the first few months of the war. Despite this, the Armstris could not seize the initiative. Not enough resources or manpower was available, and so they settled in for defence.
The Strategy of the Pegronian Front
When war broke out, the Pegronians were increasingly nervous. Their naval prowess was completely unhinged, and their air force was inferior. Their only condolence was the fact that they were an island, therefore harder to attack. In fact, the Pegronian Union was caught completely off guard. It had actually began considering leaving the Western Pact, and somehow missed the hints of war. Luckily for the Pegronians, the Norans did not know this.
Nora had had its heart torn out by the Pegronian Union many times before in history. Therefore, the Red Union had an irrational fear of the Pegronians. In reality, a quick Noran assault would have decimated the Union. But due to overestimation, the Pegronians managed to pull together. Each side on the front had different strategies:
The Pegronian Plan One
Plan One outlined an invasion of the Red Union. However, it was different to the other Pegronian invasions. Instead of attempting to punch through a wide eastern front with Nora, it would focus on poorly defended Wintonia. Over 130 divisions were to land there, with the Union putting all its hopes on this offensive. The date was set for 1915 April 22nd, and the Pegronian high command believed the URI would be neutralised by then, securing his invasion force’s western/southern flank.
The Red Union Red Fortress
Whilst Pegronia planned an offensive, the Norans were focused on the defensive. Red Fortress had begun with the Iron City in 1909, and was now a formidable line of Fortress Cities and defensive positions along the coast. The navy was also ordered to be vigilant and remain in port. However, Wintonia was ignored just as the Pegronians hoped, and it housed virtually no Red Union troops or defensive structures, except the weak Wintonia Republic National Guard, a small force of 35,000 ill-equipped men. The coast near Norso was also significantly reinforced, but there some plans were laid for an offensive.

Poll
On April 8th, a single Inamortan submarine, produced after the Knockout Raid, was patrolling deeper than usual into Armstris waters. The crew was told very little, but it seemed there had been some intel about a possible amphibious invasion by the Armstris. The crew was unimpressed, and at around 10 in the morning they were resting, mostly bored.
The sonar on board suddenly started beeping. The captain of the vessel checked what was up, and reportedly went white. The submarine had stumbled upon a huge Armstris fleet, hundreds of ships, heading for no other than the coast of Great Olton and Oslo.
Luckily for the Inamortans, a submarine, by sheer luck, discovered the Armstris invasion fleet mere hours after it had set off. The High Command was informed, and the submarine tailed the enemy fleet, feeding the URI information. An emergency meeting of the General Staff was called, and the meeting went as follows:
The men assembled were some of the most revered in the entire nation. Field Marshal Jog, one of the Coup leaders. Field Marshal Hayes, a man feared by many. Air Marshal Owl, another Coup leader. First Admiral Mine, who managed to convince the Army to send some funds to the naval reconstruction. These were just some of the names among the military junta that ruled the United Republic, its “leader” a mere puppet.
The men assembled simply did not know what to do in response to the information given to them. The URI had a mere 60 ships now after the devastating Knockout Raid. The Norans would never send naval reinforcements, not at such short notice. Manpower was stretched as it was, there were literally no armies to resist a coastal invasion. So the meeting was quiet, filled with men nervous and on the edge, staring at a map before them.
After about 20 minutes of pointless discussion of the situation, Jog suggested something… horrendous to say the least. Everyone knew the Armstris landing could not be stopped, and if their advance went unchecked… the URI would have to surrender within the year. However, if it could be slowed at least, adequate reinforcements could arrive, from Nora, somehow, if it could be slowed the URI could live through 1915.
Jog’s suggestion was a suicidal, human wave assault.
Calls were made to the populace after a quick discussion. There was not enough time to properly build up a force, so the authorities literally begged the people to virtually commit suicide. Local officers quickly whipped up a volunteer “army”. Of course, the men and women were not armed. They knew they were going to their deaths, but over one million volunteered to give their lives for their land.
Some 2 hours before the arrival of the Armstris, 1,000,000 weapon less men and women were assembled some distance from the beaches. After Armstris beachheads were made, the poor people were to charge forward, and give their lives to delay the enemy. Already the Red Union was preparing to send 750,000 men to supplement the dwindling Inamortan strength.
At around 6 PM, April 8th, the Armstris Empire made a large landing all across the coasts of Oslo and Great Olton. Whilst this was a very long front, the Armstris possessed superior weapons and knew the enemy had little in the way of defences. After some hours of establishing beachheads and advancing, commander of Operation Sea Demon forces, Colonel-General Wulf was handed an astonishing report. The human wave assault had begun.
April 8th-12th was some of the bloodiest time of the entire war. There was little in the way of combat, the Inamortan loyal people simply committed suicide. Some Armstris positions were actually pushed back, and the Armstris advance slowed significantly. Finally, on the 12th, the battered people’s army surrendered. From the one million men it started from, a mere 50,000 remained. However, the sacrifice was not in vain. The Armstris still advanced, taking large chunks of Oslo and Great Olton, but they were slowed enough for the Norans to arrive.
On April 12th, Noran elements showed up on the Inamortan Front for the first time. Their arrival spelled the end of Sea Demon’s advance, and the Armstris armies dug in trenches. An unexpected stalemate had occurred. Hog meanwhile simply would not strike at Tropia. 1,700,000 men were stationed there, each one willing to give their life ten times over for Inamorta. The front quietened again whilst each army assessed strategy and planned. Wulf wanted to rapidly blitz through Oslo and Great Olton to be able to turn south and hopefully meet Hog.

However, the Armstris had still achieved much. A lighting advance had delivered them half of Oslo and Great Olton, Hog was at Tropia’s door, few casualties had been sustained and a million induced. SP Rocket/Artillery had proven its worth, and the Empire basked in glory. Just ten days later, the Pegronians were to launch their own assault on Wintonia, tightening the noose. The attitude in the Pact was flamboyant, all expecting the war to end by 1916.
A large Noran fleet, dubbed the Seventh Fleet, consisting of 1,000 ships, moved south to try to cut the fragile sea supply line to Wulf’s forces. On April 14th, the Seventh Fleet met the Armstris Eleventh Fleet, and then followed a 3 day, vital naval battle. The Armstris had a smaller number of ships, however, air supremacy and Devastators once again proved their worth when the Seventh Fleet retreated, having lost 117 ships. After this success, the Armstris Emperor issued orders for a more aggressive naval war. The Norans wanted to use their numerical supremacy and industrial base to seriously damage the Armstris navy in one major battle, however the chance had not presented itself yet.
Meanwhile the Pegronians were rapidly preparing for Plan One, invasion of Wintonia. 650,000 men, 2,600 tanks and 700 ships were assembled. The plan, however, had changed. Unlike Pegronia’s expectations, the URI still stood strong, and therefore the Pegronians could not drive into the Red Union. Instead, 220,000 men were supposed to hold a general advance into Nora, but the bulk of the Army was to turn west, and strike at the URI. The Pegronian general staff was confident of victory. Pegronian tanks and equipment were superior both to Nora and Inamorta. If they could establish a foothold on the continent, victory would all but be assured.
However, the Pegronian Union was nervous of the Noran fleets. In total, the Red Union could call on 1,700 ships against the Pegronian Union (much more if ships were drawn from the western seas), whilst the Pegronians could only reply with 1,150. The answer would be Plan One Phase Two- a major naval strike against Iron Bay. The plan was extremely risky, and many powerful men tried to oppose it. However, on April 22nd, it was given the go-ahead.
A large Pegronian fleet, on April 22nd, 1:20 AM, consisting of the entire naval might of Pegronia (850 ships, excluding the 300 used to escort Phase One) set course for Iron bay. The Fleet consisted of:
15 Fleet carriers and 1,000 planes, 35 modern Battleships, 15 older class Battleships, 235 Assault destroyers and destroyers, 50 Heavy cruisers, 10 Super Battleships, 40 Devastators, 250 Submarines, 50 Mega Submarines, 50 Heavy submarines and 100 modern Battlecruisers.
Its target was the major Noran port of Iron Bay. The Pegronians wanted to severely damage Noran naval power, distract them from Phase One, and deliver a mortal blow to enemy morale.
At about 3 AM, the Pegronian naval bombers, dive bombers, and scores of high/low altitude bombers began their attack on Iron Bay. Scores of Noran ships were heavily damaged, and over 70 sunk. 3 more waves followed before Pegronian ships entered the fight. Pegronian submarines in particular wreaked havoc.
After 5 hours of fierce battle the Pegronians withdrew. They had lost nearly 150 ships, including the precious Battleship Steel, and 17 Devastators, however the Norans lost much, much more; and incredible 485 ships. Whilst it was not quite a knock-out blow, it did cut away a large number of Red ships, and more importantly, drew the attention from the all-important Invasion of Wintonia.
At around 5 AM, Pegronian convoys began unloading unto Wintonian beaches. The Elite First, Second and Third armies were participating in the amphibious assault, numbering over 650,000 men. These elite armies found nearly no resistance, and penetrated deeply and quickly with their armoured divisions. At 7 AM, a further 35,000 men landed, including an extra 300 tanks to serve as a tactical reserve.

Devastators are a hybrid between destroyers and battleships.
How? They are opposites apart from the fact that they both float!
