I just played as South USA, one oil and one rare province are bad because you will need boat with 3 of yours mains city's are on coast. But over supply and iron with 3 grains provinces on the coast. Lot of neighbour and coast so risk of invasion from anywere. Anyway they fun with a nice flag and New-Orleans as capital.
I thought about doing South USA, but I picked Caribbean because I don't want to worry about defending with boats and good land units.
In my experience naval nations are for people who just want to survive the start but have no intention of winning the game, it takes you so long to get anywhere that your not important in anything that happens. And by naval I mean island based nations
I just wanted to have some fun. :D

If thats fun for you thats great, I mostly think its fun to win

Winning isn't everything for me, in fact if I'm not having fun and I am 100 easy points away from winning I will quit the game.

So far I've played as West Australia it has been an easy game as my alliance members also both started on Australia...So far we have yet to have to defend anyone. Other than the fact that I made my army to big for my food to support it seems to be a great place to start.

Which is exactly what underlines that if you have any ambition to win the game dont pick an island nation. They have so little influence on the world that the rest of the world basicly ignores them.

Yes and no...If you are in our 100 player match you would know that every person on Africa and Europe is trying to get to us and kill us....Granted they are all allied together so its one huge war. We on day 18 and already own all of Asia and are pushing into Europe, Yes the start was very very slow, but once you take over say South India it gives you a good F.o.B. to then make troops on the main land and your homeland at the same time, as well as more food production. from there you just expand. The way we did it was one of us went land the other went navy and the other went air. Seems to be working out perfect. Not a single unit has gotten though our Sub wall that surrounds our homeland as an early defense warning.

Your right as soon as you get a sizeable foothold on the mainland you can win, but its far easier and faster to get that from the mainland rather than from some island in the pacific. Im not saying its impossible to win with an island nation just that its really uphill

My favorite to start with is Greece because It's a peninsula and has many Naval bases, and once you get a sizeable militaria you can easily take italy

True, but that also means that many big nations will be after you very soon.

What logic is that? Because he can take italy? Because he is a peninsula? How did you determine big nations will target him?

Because he is a peninsula and because every single world map I've played so far, Greece has been dead within 10 days. Once to Turkey, once to Algeria and Egypt, and once to Yugoslavia.

And everytime it was a competent player playing Greece?

Lol, in my game Greece is 100 points off winning.

Same as everyone, I can only comment on the ones I've played with:

  1. South Sudan- bullshit, land-locked, easily overrun, surrounded my player countries
  2. Western Australia - great, since you can take the whole of Australia, form a protective layer by taking all the islands around you, and then expand slowly
  3. South West Africa - medium. South Africa is easy to take with my country, but from then on I am slightly stuck
Interesting.

I think that the easiest to play as would be an island faction, but I would love Ireland if they added them to the World Map as playable.

My favorites include:

Khabarovsk, Libya, Egypt, Sweden.

As for the America's, I don't really like them, but maybe South USA, New England and maybe Maranhao or Sao Paulo.

I've tried all three. All three are great.

My favourit countries are:

-Poland (lots of wheat, get allied to either Belarus or Germany and attack the other. Easily defended from the scandinavian countries)

-New Zealand ( Good defensive position, easy point to attack Autralian countries from, but little Rare Materials)

-Britain (Good defense, easy to attack France from)

-South Africa (easy to conquer the rest of Africa from).
