Gibraltar-British or Spanish?

I get the feeling this won't be so one sided compared to my FALKLAND islands poll :D

I would like to know, is Gibraltar British territory, or Spanish?

Gibraltar is British, without doubts.

Gibraltar is British. It was captured by the British, ceded to the British, administered by the British. The only thing Spain has going for itself is the fact that it claims the territory.

And shooting at the fishing boats.

Gibraltar is British and the people want to be British .

"I came, I saw, I conquered" Written in a report to Rome 47 B.C., after conquering Pharnaces at Zela in Asia Minor in just five days; as quoted in Life of Caesar by Plutarch; reported to have been inscribed on one of the decorated wagons in the Pontic triumph, in Lives of the Twelve Caesars, Julius, by Suetonius.
"Alea iacta est" Gaius Julius Caesar.

"In 2002, an agreement in principle on joint sovereignty over Gibraltar between the governments of the United Kingdom and Spain was announced. There was a robust campaign against these proposals by the Government of Gibraltar and individuals, culminating in their decisive rejection in a referendum. The British Government now refuses to discuss sovereignty without the consent of the Gibraltarians."

Wikipedia, same case as the Falklands/Malvinas, the people who live there don't want it, there's no point forcing it.

Since then there's been talk on setting up a triple governmental system, so that the voices of all three groups are heard out, but I don't know how that turned out.

The people want to be British and that's respectable.

I might turn this into a little series. It might be fun.

You don't control it. It's international waters. Plus we control everything around it. Please don't provoke me.

We respect it. After all, we gave it to you, you didn't take over.

The past is a foreign country.

i know but at times of war we do have the power to control what goes in and out via Gibraltar. Its why we wanted it in the first place otherwise we would of gave it back.

True.

Gibraltar became part of the unified Kingdom of Spain and remained under Spanish rule until 1704. It was captured during the War of the Spanish Succession by an Anglo-Dutch fleet in the name of Charles VI of Austria, the Habsburg contender to the Spanish throne. At the war's end, Spain ceded the territory to Britain under the terms of the Treaty of Utrecht of 1713.

Even though you couldn't have kept it anyway :P
