Hawaii, U.S. or and independent nation?

I don't know much about the history of Hawaii, let alone it's time under U.S. administration the only thing I know is Lilo and Stitch live on Hawaii. As always I would like to know, is Hawaii U.S. or independent?

I can imagine why. I'd quite like to go holidaying there. Maybe when my Nan dies and I'll get her inheritance...after I've coped with my grief-obviously.

The real question is, should all the American territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, etc.) be made states too?

I don't want to deal with Puerto Rico's debt and Guam, well, I'm not sure.
