My favorite book is the Hobbit. For the actual LOTR, I prefer the movies to the books. In the book (the Fellowship) I only got to the part where they had the party in the woods with the elves. I found it really boring to wait 50 years for Frodo to set off on his journey.
But I must say, I really liked the part where they were hiding in the thorns from the ring wraith.

Do you mean the 60 years time between the Hobbit book and LOTR? I think that time span makes it more interesting. It shows that a lot has changed during that time. The dwarves tried to take back Moria but failed. The dragon is dead and dwarves live in Erobor again. Bilbo didn't have good resistance against the ring so he would not have been able to resist the temptations of the ring. He gives it away on his 111th birthday lol. I think the Hobbit movies did good portraying Bilbo's lack of resistance against the ring( he couldn't resist as soon as he saw it. I think its cool that Frodo ( Bilbo's nephew) was able to resist it for so long as he did. When Gandalf first gave him the ring, he threw it into the fireplace haha. The Hobbit books also mentioned a "necromancer" deep in Mirkwood. Dun dun dun... Which is foreshadowing the eventually rise to Sauron.
Btw I loved that part of the book as well. The Ringwraiths were awesome in the movies. But idk whats worse, the ringwraiths or the bugs that were crawling on the hobbits!
No, I meant that in the book the Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo gets the ring, waits 50 years, moves house and THEN sets off for Mordor.

It was a year or two before he left. Frodo was 24 or so when he got the ring from Bilbo. Bilbo would have been long dead by then if Frodo waited 50 years. Bilbo was around 50 when he started his journey in the Hobbit. 60 years later after the events of the Hobbit he is 111. He was able to live that long thanks to the powers of the ring. Waiting a year or two is like nothing compared to the time Bilbo had it. During that time Frodo didnt have any immediate need to depart.
