Most Powerful Country In The World Right Now

Hey.

Just wanted to get everyone's views on who exactly is the most powerful nation on Earth as of right now......hopefully we'll also be free of bias in making these assessments (i.e., if you're American, don't say America is the most powerful because you're only reason is 'Murica)

Take into consideration both military power and soft power.

Yes, that is how one might solve a resource problem.

It also is a quick way to end up at war with all your neighbors. That obviates the need for US to engage in a land war in Asia. Simply blockade the trade routes, engage up to the coast line and watch the unfolding of a disaster in China. China has made no friends among her neighbors as it is. A resource grab (even more aggressive than what is currently going on) would aggravate the problem.

There's a video on YouTube which suggests that the United States could hold out indefinitely against a defensive war against every other nation.

Yeah, right up until the point where the other nuclear powers started lobbing ICBMs at the continental United States. It doesn't matter if the European and Asian craters are deeper than the North American craters, if you have 150 million dead, another 100 million suffering from radiation sickness and your hospital system is overwhelmed, and you are no longer able to feed the survivors. Measuring who lost more people or industry to determine a "winner" is absolute insanity at that point . . . not to mention the global effects of that much radioactive fallout being released into the atmosphere. I remember reading Nevil Shute's novel On the Beach as a teenager, and then seeing the movie with Gregory Peck. I am still horrified by the prospect.

There's a reason why they United States and the Soviet Union/Russia never fought a major war against each other after 1945. Like the WOPR computer said in WarGames, global thermonuclear war is "a strange game" in which "the only winning move is not to play."

what would wopr say if it played CoW?

It would probably build more interceptor squadrons and anti-tank regiments to deal with the spammed tactical bombers and light tanks.

WOPR was no dummy.

"Would you like to play a game, professor?"

if you type in the username "Joshua" then you get to empty Fort Knox and build 7569 Nukes in 5 minutes in the Aleutians.

Well, Jean-Claud Juncker seems to think so. Did you see where he was running his mouth like he was Donald Trump this week? The EU needs to dump that dork at the earliest possible convenience. It's not the first time that he has done or said something embarrassing . . . or just plain weird.

I found the Youtube video referenced by Soldjer above:

I tried to find it yesterday, and could not. Today, it randomly popped up on a list of suggested subjects for me. Odd coincidence.

Anyway, the video is not exactly what I would call an in-depth analysis. Typical superficial Youtube junk.

Lol US and russia would be

Pro-American propaganda to sell ball caps and t-shirts.

If radical islam be considered a nation, they are a world power. At least in a political sense.

To paraphrase Joseph Stalin: Radical Islam? How many divisions do they have?

Asymmetric warfare is only an unsolvable problem when the stronger antagonist lacks the will to impose the required military solution.

You dummies, it's obviously Switzerland!

President Trump would say the USA. If everybody backs down (North Korea,Russia,Iran etc.) would he be right? :)

:S

Not to sound too much like Bill Clinton, but it really depends on how you define "most powerful." If you mean biggest nuclear powers with the ability deliver a warhead via missile, it's Russia and the United States more or less tied, followed by a distant China, then France and the United Kingdom, followed even more distantly by Israel, India, Pakistan and small fry North Korea. In terms of world-wide blue-water naval force projection, it's the U.S. Navy by a long mile.

The US is the best at force projection. Their hands in both the Middle East and Pacific highlight this.
