We as a nation, the United States of America, is functioning as well as we can under a curse from God. That curse is punishment for falling away -- corporately -- from a unified faith in Him. And since I don't believe we will return to a right faith in God as a nation, I believe we are doomed as a nation. What once was a glorious and "shining city on a hill", America, has become a den of evildoers and wickedness. God help the remnant of Christians that remain in her. For America the bold has become a shame before God.
I don't think it's a curse, personally. It's His plan, and we have to go forwards with whatever He puts out for us... Remember His hand is on everything, and it is His will that Donald Trump is the Republican nominee and Hillary Clinton's the Democrat nominee.
To be fair, Donald J. Trump is not the nominee yet. God -- in His infinite wisdom -- may yet choose to cause the Donald to step down, or to be challenged by some other means, or even to have an heart attack. Whatever God chooses, it is His will. But I do believe our nation is cursed because of our disobedience as a Church -- corporately -- in America.
Daniel 2:21 says, of God, that "He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning."
He will allow our world to experience changes such that those unbelievers (and believers who aren't aware of the Word and Will of God) may choose to interpret the perceived changes in the environment to a be a potential disaster and that it is by the work of man and not the work of God that our world is experiencing these changes.
He will allow different leaders to rule and He will cause some to falter and fall. It isn't known for sure whether it is His direct Will that every leader is appointed as they are or else whether God picks and chooses only some of them. I choose to believe that God is in complete control such that no leader is ever appointed BUT by His will. That is why I believe we are cursed as a nation. Because if we were still blessed with an hedge about us, then we would easily be electing righteous rulers whom follow the will of God and openly proclaim salvation by Jesus and admit they have indeed sinned and needed redemption by the Blood of Christ. Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Jim Santorum, and some of the other candidates for President proclaimed this in all humility. However, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders (among others) have not proclaimed this -- let alone in humility.
Because God "gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning", as Christians who faithfully choose to rely on the Word of God first and above all the teachings of man, that we can see the realities of this lost and fallen world and know the by the wisdom that God bestows upon us that the leadership He appoints to our nation is in response to His curses or His blessings. That is a part of discernment.

Lol, what about Allah, Yahweh, Buddha, Amaterasu-Ō-Mi-Kami, and Flying Spaghetti Monster? What about their plans for the US?
Um, I'm pretty sure Yahweh, the God of Judaism, is also the God of the Christians. We just usually don't call Him by that name, rather we usually refer to the Father as Jehovah. And Yahweh is a misnomer: from Hebrew, it's actually better translated as " YHWH ". We Christians call upon the same God of Abraham, Isaac, and David. For it is the same heritage that we can claim thanks to Jesus Christ.
Through the gracious gift of salvation by the blood of Jesus Christ poured out for us at His sacrifice, gentile Christians are called to be grafted onto the vine that is the House of Israel. That house is the chosen nation through which God appointed to fulfill His work on earth and it was through that house that His Son would enter the world. And, with adoption by the Father for us gentiles through the blood of Jesus' sacrifice, it is the Son whom calls us brothers and sisters and redeemed us back into the Kingdom of God.
Don't forget, it was because the Son entered the world through the House of Israel, that Jesus was Jewish. He was an Hebrew. Jesus called the gentiles the "prodigal son" and He showed that we gentiles needed to be redeemed back into the House of the Lord. And it was His mission -- in part -- to accomplish this feat -- to bring gentiles into the fold. This is a part of why the Lord established His Church: to minister to others and to enjoin them into the Kingdom of God which is made up of the Family of God. And it is because Jesus acknowledges us as sons [and daughters] of God -- that he calls us brother and sister -- that we can therefore count ourselves a part of the Family of God. This is why, when I pray to God, I can call Him "Father". For He is my Heavenly Father and I have been granted a birthright in the Kingdom of God (it's called that because God is King over creation) and because of that, I am like a prince before the nations. I will receive a crown in Heaven and My King, Jesus, will inherit the throne of God and the earth will be His footstool.
This is not just mere imagery. This is the reality of our existence. And any who reject the call to join the Family and Kingdom of God will not be allowed to enter the new city of Jerusalem. They will live outside with the dogs where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth (as in the Lake of Fire).

well said @Diabolical. Whether you believe ornot in God, the truth is there. It can be hidden or disguised, but its there. Lies don't go very far without anyone noticing it. WWII saved FDR. He was a failing president up until that point. It is what saved the US from the Great Depression. As to Pearl Harbor, did he or did he not know of that attack? Many say he did, some say we all had no clue.
I really do believe that the American government -- at best -- only had a vague inkling that Imperial Japan would ever attack us. But, they were more focused on the idea that if Japan ever did, it would occur first on the west coast rather than Hawaii because they thought that Hawaii was more fortified and the shallow harbor would prevent any successful amphibious assault -- something that Japan didn't bother doing anyway.

The Islamic Caliphate was the 'empire' for Muslims. It was pretty much the Ottoman Empire. Since the Ottoman Empire dissolved after WW1, Islam fell into a state of disarray and disputes between the sects of Islam has created the horror that is the Middle East today.
Lest we forget, back at that time, the Ottoman Empire was not the only land of Muslims. Islam had already gained widespread reach throughout northern Africa (though not to the extent of today), lands east of the Ottomans (like Persia, Pakistan and Kashmir), lands north of the Ottomans (many of the Soviet republics) and southeast Asia (like Indonesia which has the largest population of Muslims of any nation, today).
