Germany was divided, much like Korea and Vietnam between the Soviets and the Allies. West Germany originally used to be French Germany, British Germany and U.S. Germany but they joined there bits togther to create the federal republic of Germany.

FRG still had NATO troops garrisoned inside it and it wasn't entirely free to do what it wanted, much like Japan and South Korea, FRG was granted the ability to produce it's own arms (Leopard1/2) etc. Giving Germany some power.

Japan wasn't at large a treaty was signed that meant they're armed forces were now for self-defence (JSDF) It limited the weapons of war they could produce,no CVs, and a U.S. naval base and army base are at Japan to this very day. Keeping that sly midget in check.

Withthe basic mechanics, a whole range of games/wars could be played.

How about the middle east 1950-1980 (at least Israel, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq).

Or a more fictional 'African Wars' setting. Lots of countries, all rather low tech, on a huge map.

I dont really like the idea of throwing nukes around.
