No, they were Hasidic Jews, which is different to the more common Ashkenazi type that I belong to. Hasidic Jews are more mystical, and not that close to traditional Judaism.

Those ghettos and separate communities that you see in Europe during this time tended to be far less pronounced and looked way more different, though existing to a point and at certain times in these states. However other states like the Fatimids were not so kind and committed various crimes like massacres and synagogue burnings.

It was mostly due to Israel’s existence and immigration to there + tensions between Jews and Muslims which caused that decline. It also seems Mossad and the Moroccan government had participation in the shady operation Yachin which saw many moved to Israel.

According to Wikipedia it was actually heavy taxation and extra-large discrimination by the French that gave Jews such terrible living conditions in the country. Moroccan Nationalists promised equal conditions and rights to Jews is the country were to gain independence, though the article does not say how fulfilled that was.

This is true, however I would question the claim about Ottoman control being particularly friendly to us. They were "friendly" in the sense that we were basically allowed to exist with Arabs, but there were heavy restrictions placed on worship, amongst other things.

Muslim-Jewish relations in general tended to be far more normalized than those of the Christians with Jews. The Middle East being the melting pot it was had huge numbers of Christians and Jews who lived in the Muslim region, with them going as far as reaching positions of power within governments quite often and in Palestine living completely normally along with Christians and Muslims. I cannot state how complicated and varying it was from state and time period that it would take place in, but it was 100% a lot better than how Muslims and Jews were treated in Europe.

Part of this was the diversity of the Middle East and it being a crossroads that basically always had Christians and Jews for centuries before and after the creation of Islam. That and the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ordering total tolerance and fair treatment of other religions allowed these people to learn how to coexist far better, which reduced the amount of massacres that would happen targeting one specific people group (and when massacres did happen they usually killed Muslims, Christians and Jews alike, such as the Timurids who did not care who they slaughtered.) Arabs and Hebrews both speak Semitic languages and have centuries of shared history.

Of course eyes would then turn to people such as the Fatimid Caliphate, which conquered Jerusalem and murdered/forcefully converted Jews and Christians, then destroying holy sites. Even then, he allowed those people to revert 10 years later, rebuilt those holy sites and the city, and then collapsed years later with the much, much more benevolent Salah ad-Din taking over (the Fatimids were Shi’a, murdered Sunni’s and gained their ire) and going as far as to protect Jews from Crusaders and his own soldiers. Jerusalem would actually be taken from the Fatimids by the Crusaders, and we all know what they did to Muslims and Jews (even some Arab Christians iirc.)

I would say daily life was what varied most from state to time. Certain rulers allowed Jews to live completely normally and didn’t harm them at all, while others were more restrictive with the worst mimicking the Ghettos of Europe. Usually it would lean much more towards the former catagory, with the most powerful states at their heigh such as the Caliphates and Ottomans (Under Suleiman or the Tanzimat reforms, for example) allowing freedom, some representation and access to services such as the House of Wisdom. while Dar al-Islam wasn’t some harmonious heaven, and there were some incidents it tended to be a far more normal for Jews and Muslims to live together, and even intermarry and gain some political power compared to Europe at the time.
