"I came, I saw, I conquered" Written in a report to Rome 47 B.C., after conquering Pharnaces at Zela in Asia Minor in just five days; as quoted in Life of Caesar by Plutarch; reported to have been inscribed on one of the decorated wagons in the Pontic triumph, in Lives of the Twelve Caesars, Julius, by Suetonius.

It is the same with other countries too. By the middle of the war the German army was a hodge-podge of whatever they could get their sausage-covered hands on. They even had some French and British WWI-era tanks.

I read in a Forsyth book, that in a fight with equal numbers, the Wehrmacht could beat ANY WW2 opponent. Couldn't agree more.

The past is a foreign country.

It's possible! The German army was a good army, but did not have sufficient resources and supplies on the Eastern front.

Of course, but in equal numbers it could beat anyone.
The past is a foreign country.

German army lacked supplies cos of their fronts against the allies...

The soviets had supplies cos of the allies.. the USA and more importantly The UK are the only reason the USSR survived

The Germans are just a great bunch of people... 70 odd years after the war, and they an economic powerhouse, and the most powerful nation in Europe economical and Fiscal wise

they were even 20years after the war,, only problem with there successes was from the fact that the communists ran the east, and that was s shame, cos that held back Germany hugely even to this day, there is inequality between east and west Germany...

Nobody denies Germans their practicality and economic prowess. But USSR would have held out even without USA and UK, their help was not as significant as you may think.

Russia has not really lost a Major war since the Mongols

Cold war wasn't a real war, just a load of weapons.

Afghanistan
Ah yes, Afghanistan, where Empires go to die. What do you expect? Even the US had trouble there. Besides, no country can win all the time, America certainly hasn't and the UK didn't either.

point is, you said that the Soviets never lost

yea they did... lost in Afghanistan..

lost the cold war, which lead to one of the best moments of all time :)

the fall of communism in Russia

now the nations a lot better, Im gonna try go holidays there...

I did not, it is fairly obvious they did.

It isn't a war, it was an arms race. Do you even know what "cold" means in military terms....?

Yes it never heated up.. basic knowledge here.. think we all ahead of you...

Things heated up plenty of times.. just not directly.

Americans won.. wasnt easy, but they got the job done

so if the soviet union and Communism is so great.. tell me why it fell?

You can't read, can you? Not a war, an arms race. Never got hot, USSR and USA never came into contact, saying the US won is a blatant lie and a moronic statement that will reflect on a persons mental capacity poorly.

US Imperialism.

so the Vietnam war, had nothing to do with the Soviet Union..

and Korea...

and wait a sec.. the Americans had better weapons during the war as well..

so because of the failure of a capitalistic nation the communist nation fell?

Think more like people are not idiots, and know that Capitalism is the best...

North Korea VS South Korea

or even look at the socialist state of Venezuela

No, mostly China. Have you heard of a proxy war? You should look it up, these things never end. By the by, 'Nam was a catastrophic US failure.

oceanhawk wrote:

Of course the US is going to have better weapons than a new nations Guerrilla army. They could use them well though as both the US and the French pulled out.

My point is that the soviets intervened in korea.. didnt work

They intervened in Afghanistan... didnt work.. got their As3 kicked

they didn't intervene hugely in Nam... fair enough..

USSR did not want to, you should know if you knew anything about the war.

Once again, empires go there to die. No one wins in Afghanistan, not even the US.

yea... US won,, took them a while but they got it over

yes.. well North Korea still flying the mig50s they got from USSR

Talking about that reminds me of a story my Granddad told me. He fought in the Korean War, he was one of the troops sent from Britain. He worked a lot with the Americans, and once in the big tent where they sleep (Forgot the name for it) he was relaxing on his bed when something hot scraped past his ear slightly cutting it. It turns out the american across from him was polishing his gun and he forgot to turn on the safety and remove the ammo. He accidentally shot the weapon and almost shot my Granddad in the head. Granddad says "Americans are well equipped and friendly, but complete idiots"
