Your Favourite Military Commander

Copying Butter Ball Bill's idea of the prettiest plane of all times, I bring up the topic of your favourite military commander. No time limits. Only requirement is that he/she actually existes/exists.

Having said all of that, I would go for Patton.

Why not? Is it because of what the leaders did?

Communism is one of the worst forms of government. As soon as a country enters communism, it's doomed. For a start, the rich flee the country. Then, because you get the same money as your neighbour, even if you don't work, people work less, reducing the country's efficiency. Then, leaders become corrupt and take money away. In the end, communism works by giving the same amount to everybody. But it only gives out misery.

Well, maybe if you made a different style of communism(I think I said it before). You are allowed privatise companies and everyone is given a job. Say all jobs are taken and you have some people lying around. You train them in coding, get them to make a little game. You publish it online and have it like this game, with a couple ads here and there with a premium currency. The devs are then payed to read the forums and put in the top ideas. If you have more people lying around, you train them in coding too and get them working on bugs. So you have what could be a popular game with one team constantly growing the game and the other team fixing the bugs left behind.

More people are lying around and more houses are needed. You train some people in mining and construction then pick a nice big field and start building an underground living facility.

I have very many idea's for jobs and such to help people. We can learn a lot from the industrial revolution and sci-fi. If use what we learn from them, we could make a successful communist country. The problem is not the regime, it is people within the regime. Also, if someone isn't working, they can get money elsewhere rather than from the government. That is just not right.

I agree with Bill's point, the ideology is sound, it's the fact that it's very easily corrupted that's the issue.

Another general I have a fondness for is Wellington, especially after reading the historical fiction Sharpe series

Wellington the place? I can't find him online, is he a General or maybe has a position that would make it easier?

Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, British/Irish general, we had the memorial for the battle of Waterloo recently

Thanks. Did you get the medal that they were giving out to remember the battle?

Nice. I would've ordered one but I live in Ireland so I can't.

Bill, you should get to Russia and lead the 2nd Communist Revolution.

I also like Napoleonic War generals. My favourite is a French one called Lannes. Then it's a Spanish one (I'm VERY patriotic) called Palafox.

:/ I'm not totally happy with the Spanish conduct in the peninsular campaign, although the guerrilla and partisan forces were pretty impressive

I would prefer to start my own country with my own ideologies and work out from there. Possibly start something like MFS from Metal Gear Solid.

They kind of abused of their guerilla status, and started raiding villages, but overall, it's them who saved my country from Napoleon. My life ambition is making Spain a superpower again, but it is a pretty unrealistic ambition. Let's hope I'm wrong.

Oh, and Kalantigos, does the name I mentioned before (Lannes) ring a bell?

He he, America would say you had WMD's before Spain could become a superpower. Then invade.

Good point. But I like America. Especially Obama. Great man.

Churchill one said "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing- after they tried everything else". Guess he's right.

Why, because he's black and in his term they caught Bin Laden? I don't like him or any other current world leader.

I love him. Not because of Bin Laden or because he's black (no racism meant), but because he is something we will never have here in Spain. He invites extremely clever kids who invent stuff to the White House to show their inventions, he gives beautiful speeches, he goes to the church where black guys were murdered in cold blood the other day and starts to sing a very famous soul song... He is NOTHING like Rajoy in here (but the alternatives ain't much better).

You never realise what you have until it's gone. You lived in America, right? Check out the video:

Once again, I'm Irish. I mainly don't like him because cults are rampant in America. Some cults are fine but most are really screwed up, especially Scientology. Don't believe me and think they're harmless? Check out Operation Snow White, their own little project.

I just like that he's been pushing for his policies again, especially the more socio-beneficial stuff. He's done a little change, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head that's been particularly bad, like declaring war on a country and devastating the surrounding region.
