He did mess up Market Garden, from the first stage from the last. When Brian Horrocks (I think it was him) captured Antwerp, instead of going on to wipe out the 2 SS Panzer divisions, he stopped. Monty's orders. He put General Roy Urquart (or something like that) in charge of the Allied airborne divisions. Urquart was a regular infantry commander, and he hadn't jumped from a plane in his life. Monty planned to use the airborne troops to secure a corridor from Eindhoven to Arnhem. 65km. Only 7000 paras. That's less than a company per kilometer.comrade dave wrote:
You've said this already, but he didn't mess up Market Garden, it was too daring for his own good.
Your Favourite Military Commander
Copying Butter Ball Bill's idea of the prettiest plane of all times, I bring up the topic of your favourite military commander. No time limits. Only requirement is that he/she actually existes/exists.
Having said all of that, I would go for Patton.

He didn't plan it properly what happened afterwards was the allies's inability to facilitate Montgomery's unusual plan.

No dude, it was planned horribly from the start.comrade dave wrote:

Can you read today? I said he didn't plan it well, look up therecomrade dave wrote:

It would never have worked because it was too bold for one of Monty's normal strategies. He was out of his depth and looking to saturate his ego.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN9EC3Gy6Nk
Ok, but it wasn't American inability to help him what caused ultimate defeat.
I said "Allied" so both Americans and British and those Frenchies that did very little once Paris was liberated.

Lol, the 'White-Flag Wavers' didn't even participate in Market Garden. The Polish did, though.comrade dave wrote:

well this seems to be one hell of an argument
Forum Gang Divine Entity
Taking over the Forum 1 post at a time.
I didn't think it was an argument. I always applauded the Poles for their efforts even when the U.S and Britain basically sold Poland to the Soviet union.

Roosevelt sold Poland to the USSR, yeah, but Churchill fought to the bitter end to try and preserve Poland's sovereignity. It's one of the reasons why I love Churchill and dislike Roosevelt: both did fine during the war, but FDR thought he could be friends with the Soviets.
I mean, Patton was murdered by the OSS because he realised the new enemy were the Soviets and went around saying so.
Churchill is my fairy godfather without the tutu.

Mine too, lol! He was the best guy ever, lol. What he said made so much sense.
I don't think this is quote true. Do you have proof to back this up?Pablo22510 wrote:

Even now, in 1984, the Soviet's 40th Army and the self-proclaimed "Mujahideen" are still engaged in bitter conflict.
Is there a new communist in town?

Conspiracy theory, but it makes perfect sense. Horace Woodring, his chauffeur, was OSS, without Patton knowing. And since the post-war situation was very tense, an icon general predicting the future about how the Soviets are bad and stuff isn't exactly good. According to varying witnesses and sources, the OSS chauffeur had a traffic accident on purpose, and Patton was paralised, and severely injured. But when they saw he wasn't going to die, the OSS truned a blind eye and let the NKVD poison him.
Proof?Pablo22510 wrote:

You need to read the book (second link) to see the proof, but I assure you there's plenty.
Do those sources have sources? The first doesn't and I am not interested in buying a book; I am reading about North American birds.

North American birds...
Yes, they have their respectable sources, especially the second one.
