AI popularity

Does giving shared map increase popularity more than right of way?

Does trade embargo decrease popularity with AI?

Shared map will increase popularity more and trade embargo will decrease popularity HOWEVER prior to declaring war, you should give a trade embargo as this lowers the amount of popularity you lose if you were to just straight out attack or declare war.

I know just attacking other countries damages your popularity more than declaring war first.

Is there any sort of discount on the popularity you lose if the country you declare war on is already at war with one of your coalition partners?

Is it me or is trade embargo the only thing that AI are capable to do.

Idk that seems outdated. CoW has changed a lot since then.

It's not that's why it's still pinned.

But if you declare trade embargo or even war to a very unpopular player the you will gain popularity with the AI as they will see you as an ally in their quest against unpopular players.

In a recent game I had another opponent sneak attacking everyone and was consistently on top of the dreaded nations list. He also sneak attacked me. He was rather large so bringing him down took the rest of the game. During which time, I didn’t go to war with any other nations, but my popularity kept going down.

Can you think of any reason my popularity would go down when I was at war with the most unpopular nation?

Maybe you had the biggest army? Or you didn't use the market enough? Or you had shared maps with other dreaded nations? Did you declare trade embargo before declaring war? Do you fight more than one war at a time?

I did have the biggest army. I didn’t realize that was a factor. That makes the most sense for that game.

I was using the market and generally was only fighting the one opponent after I resolved the conflicts I was in when he sneak attacked me. I figured since I was only at war with him my popularity would increase and was surprised when it didn’t.

It was an odd game where everyone went inactive by day five except me and him.

Good to know about sharing maps with other dreaded nations too!

Thanks for sharing those factors, I don’t remember seeing them in the guide!

You’re right they were, I just didn’t remember seeing them.

one more question though. About trading. How can you tell who you’re trading with? Does trading affect you popularity broadly or just with the nation you traded with?

it does not affect anything, trading is trading.

You don't know with whom you trade but the more players go AI during the game the higher the chance that you will trade with an AI. Trading with an AI helps to upkeep your popularity.

I'd also like to add that before you declare war, you should not only embargo but embargo 24 hours before. This can even further decrease the penalty.

True, you can do that with an AI. However I wouldn't do it with an active player as he would receive a 24h heads up that you will attack him.

Yes, that is true. Also, make sure to give RoW to all ai controlled player nations once they go inactive, that will also boost your popularity.

Trading does affect your popularity, just not by much compared to other things.
