Air VS Ground mechanics questions

In the past I have noticed that sometime when I attack with planes I receive no damage and I am always happey about that. Now the shoe is on the other foot, so I want to figure how things work.

My stack of 8 anti-air with a variety of other units totaling 24 units was attacked in forested terrain by 9 interceptors and 4 Tac bombers in a group of 13 planes. I was salivating over the losses he was going to take and the air superiority I would soon enjoy......it didnt work that way though! I was knocked down to 20 units loosing a commando, anti-air, anti-tank, and artillary. The attacking planes took no losses and only a couple Hps damage.

My troops had not been in battle at all the previous hour. Just about all units, including his air are Level 3.

Is there any way to know if a plane attack is going to go through unscathed as it did? Should I continue into his territory with the 20 remaining units knowing that I will never reach his air base sustaining losses at that rate? Is there a good chance that he will take a ton of damage on the next attack run? Should I break up into two smaller groups or set my 5 remaining tanks loose to retreat or forge ahead?

Please read and understand what I wrote before replying a simple or uninformed answer.

Update, another attack round went by and I lost 1 unit and the attacking 13 aircraft to ZERO hitpoint damage. Im feeling the pressure to turn around because this does not make sense. 7 anti-air with 90 somthing state based efficiency should do about 40 damage if math has anything to do with it. Its mostly interceptors for crying out loud.

A: The maximum size for the best damage efficiency is typically 5 of the same unit (this can be coupled with other units with no damage efficiency loss).

B: That is so weird. I've never had the problem.

Attack rapidly, ruthlessly, viciously, without rest, however tired and hungry you may be, the enemy will be more tired, more hungry. Keep punching.

same thing happened to me..i had 7 AA guns with 9 tanks..they were wiped out by 20 bombers..i lost all for the cost of 1 bomber

a) it varies from unit to unit.

5 is only for tanks and planes

I've had varying results when attacking on forests vs attacking on plains.

I attacked one inf (lvl 1) to test on each type of territory. (10p map)

Attack was with 5 tacs and 3 fighters (lvl 2) .

On plains the inf only lost 20% down to 80%. On forests the inf suffered a whopping 80% damage down to 20%.

Both should have been killed instantly though.

I don't know what happened with you there, maybe random factors, but I've noticed lately that on forest territory, ground units suffer more than on plains.
