That is correctly assumed. They will return. Taking the airbases out of under them, is the perfect approach to wipe them out.

airbase and patrols
I'm about to fight an AI with 2 large stacks of Interceptors flying patrol over Airbase C. One stack is from Airbase A, the other from Airbase B. If I attack and conquer Airbase A & B, will the stacks try and return home and become ground convoys, or will they just land at Airbase C?
and I assume if the land at Airbase C, they will have to refuel for 15 minutes.
My plan is to take out their home bases, forcing them to land. I just need to know where they will land so I can take them on the ground.

They will return to their home airbases and be destroyed very easily. It's an excellent way of killing off an enemy airforce with very few casualties to yourself

yeah. I just took out a stack of 21 level 4 Interceptors with 2 light tanks and 1 Mech Infantry. It's a beautiful thing. I may not not even put much into building Interceptors in the future. Easier to take out their base, then roll them up on land. and this way I can build more Tac Bombers and Rockets.
