AFAIK they are on the ground. I.e. thry fight like if you have them standing on a eunway on land. You need to scramble them to use their unit stats. I don't think they do an automatic/invisible CAP (the carrier has it though)Dboy2806 wrote:

Planes that are finished refueling and parked on the deck of the carrier will be considered a part of the group and they will return fire when attacked, just like any other group of units.
Planes parked on the ground also will return fire when attacked except during the brief refueling window.

While refueling they have convoy stats, once that is completed they have full capabilities.

Refueling planes are vulnerable.
Fully refueled planes are prepared to defend themselves, regardless of location shown.
