If the player belongs to an alliance, the field will be displayed under the player's name.
And same time the name of the alliance will be displayed in that field.
When a player doesn't belong to an alliance, the field will be displayed "no alliance".
So perhaps, as you suspected the alliance has either disbanded or just been overlooked by you.
