they are a very niche unit. 99.9999% of the time they are useless

What about the 0.0001%?
Looking for improvement.

The short answer: No.

The long answer: Everything considered, in the light of their abilities and their drawbacks, while also keeping their cost in mind, and after careful consideration, this particular unit is not good.

They are good if you are fighting @Fox-Company, though. That’s the 0.0001%.

commando's meant to target light armour, but any high levelled a-c are very counter-infantry anyway

Commandoes are best against light armour, you’re sending yourself to the grave

Problem with commandos: way too expensive for the moderate stat line. They are incapable of fighting most units in the infantry tech tree, and no units if both sides used the same resources. They also get demolished by most heavy armor and aircraft, exception being probably railroad guns and TDs. How about light armor? Mech infantry actually win that matchup by a landslide, armored cars can not only reveal them, but also win in a fight. Lights probably lose, but still not a good matchup for commandos because they are so expensive. They will win however into ordnance units and RA/SP RA, but these units are commonly protected by the units that commandos are bad against. Summary: commandos win into units that are faster than it, and units that are never alone, and lose into essentially everything it should commonly encounter. You could probably argue the terrain bonuses, but once again most of the units that commandos win against are faster than them, and/or are transported by other units.

What about their stealth? Great for land grabbing as they have stealth in all terrain and aren't particularly slow. But terrible for ambushing, as their stealth is so late into the game that you should probably just assume they will always be revealed.

Only time I would justify commandos is late game as they are expensive in resources, but their resource:manpower ratio is quite high. They are a good resource sponge once you run out of manpower.

I liek Commando

Don't you spam LTs?

I thought LT spam can't be defeated, so it's always the best choice :D

It's less so that they cannot be defeated, it is more so they outrun everything that defeats them..
