I normally fid myself going for a bit of everything, but i always feel its weaker then focusing on one or two things, like getting super high level barracks, some ordnance and super high tanks and basically just going tanks and motorized. If my OG strategy fine or should i focus on one or two, if i should whats the best one to.

It's wasteful to research everything, new players will do this but it wastes resources. Research only what you build; build only what you research.
At risk of stating the obvious, each unit serves one or more roles. An army needs most or all of these roles to function, but not usually more than one unit in each role.
So, for your field army you will usually need a scout unit, a cavalry unit, a mêlée unit that does decently against each armour class (these could often combine light armour and heavy armour), a ranged/air anti-armour, ranged/air anti-infantry, an anti-air unit, and finally cheap garrison units and possibly stealth units.
E.g. in Axis, you could use mot inf for scouting and cavalry, medium tanks and mot inf. for mêlée, attack bombers for ranged anti-armour, SPRA for ranged anti-inf (hypothetically; not recommended!), SPAA to protect your stacks, and anti-air to prevent revolts.
Sometimes you won't need all of these, sometimes a unit fills several roles, and the emphasis will vary by doctrine.
Maybe have some of a unit that fills a similar niche but only research one to high levels, e.g. ints to high level but anti-air to lvl.1 or 2. If you need to spam some stuff, at least you can build an army quickly.

My opinion; tanks tanks tanks.
My father once said this: “If you don’t know anything, don’t assume you know and don’t say anything you don’t know is true” I always got annoyed when he said that, but to be honest he’s kinda right if you think about it Have a good day!

Yeah, listen to this advice, and then do the opposite
Don't forget resources matter. In your dreams, you may want to build a swarm of bombers, but if your country lacks goods or rares, you may want to go in a different direction. Heavy armor units require tons of metal. The infantry branch requires tons of food. And so on. Plus you will need recruitment centers in your cities, to improve manpower production. Those also require food and goods, so if you start building tons of motorized infantry (for example) you may paint yourself into a corner. It's common to see players with huge reserves of unisud rares, and a chronic deficit of food and metal. That's a sign of bad planning. Those rares could have been used to build rocket artillery, one of the most effective damage dealers in the game, especially against early unarmored and light armor units.
Armies need to match up well against their expected adversaries, and they need to consume resources in a balanced way. Do this well, and you can build a large, effective military.
