Combat Mechanics
It's my understanding that a regiment will counter attack each time it's attacked. So in the event that you bring in reinforcements, which creates multiple stacks, your enemy will counter-attack each stack at full strength, regardless of the number of units it is currently fighting.
In this scenario, a stack of 52 infantry units was fighting three stacks of 30, 25 and 20 light tank regiments. Because of the mechanics, I was effectively fighting against 156 infantry units with 1/3 of the hit points. Because the damage is all dealt instantaneously, my units absorbed three times the hit points than it would have if it was one stack.
It seems like this is something that needs to be looked at.
Let's look at it realistically:
An enemy engaged in a conflict with an equal number of enemy forces will not be able counter attack at full force against a second force of equal size. It only stands to reason that (with regards to external factors and bonuses) the larger force, should win, regardless of the number of stacks attacking.
Let's look at worst case scenario:
100 infantry units in a single stack, attacked simultaneously by 100 Commando units in 100 individual stacks. With the current logic, 1 commando attacks at a time, and is counter attacked by 100 infantry units, and 100 hitpoints are dealt. The commando is defeated instantly. The second commando attacks, once again is counter attacked by 100 infantry units, and another 100 hitpoints are dealt.
In this situation, all 100 commando units would be defeated at the first volley, because you were effectively fighting 10,000 infantry (100 infantry x 100 enemy stacks attacking) with 1/100th of the hit points. With the current rules, a stack of 100 units will easily defeat 3 stacks of 50 units.
Solution:
Only "available" units are allowed to counter attack. Or perhaps it's easier to say that Indvidual units my only counter attack once per round. If two groups of 50 (groups A & B) attack 1 group of 100 (group C), only 50 units in group C may counter attack at the arrival of each group. The arrival of Group B would allow the other half of the units in Group C to counter attack.
