I believe light armoured units like Mech Infantry,Light Tanks,SP Artillery and SP Anti Air stays as light armoured units even upgraded to the highest level however with sufficient numbers upgraded light armoured units can destroy heavy armoured units.

Thanks bud.
If you look at the "UNIT DETAIL" info it shows yo Which CLASS the unit belongs to. For example and infantry would be "Unarmoured Class" while on land and a "Ship Class" when embarked and moving across water.
All that info is available through the Research screen which lets you get those details for every unit.
Dont see that at all sorry. It shows values against a variety of things blah de blah but it doesnt say which category it is. Viz infantry - defensive and gives you various values but it doesnt say what it is. We know infantry = unarmoured but it doesnt say so.
At the bottom of the UNIT INFO screen (scroll all the way down) right under the Costs to Produce the Unit, it shows you the UNIT CLASS when the unit is in combat, vs other classes (it shows land units as a "Ship" class when embarked and moving across water"
In the ARMY DETAIL screen, in the Far Right column named "DAMAGE DISTRIBUTION" it shows you the unit receives damage as a particular "CLASS"
