Do AI countries ever attack each other or other players? Shouldn't they?

Right now, the AI seems to be an annoying placeholder. I think the game could greatly benefit by having the AI act a bit more independently, as by declaring war on neighboring AI players or actual players. While this bills itself as an MMo strategy game, not everyone has the time to check a game regularly every day, and in addition to gold usage, this puts casual players at a disadvantage from those who treat the game like it's their job.
By giving AI a more active role, this could allow for very interesting single player, or low player count games. It adds an entirely new angle of gameplay, and gives the game more longevity.

There are two kinds of AI. The regular boring placeholder AI and the Elite Ai.
Elite AI is an option when creating a map, and costs 5,000 gold, but it will give you the experience you want. Also elite AI games count for your stats, where plain AI solo games will not.
