Do cruisers still fire when stacked with Battleships that are attacking at maxinum range

Imagine I have a stack of 5 BB and 5 cruisers. I use the attack order wanting the stack to fire upon an enemy. When doing this the stack will travel the minimal distance and fire at maximum range. What I'm asking is if they are firing at the battleship's maximum range do the cruiser's fire and is their damage calculated as well? Does it only calculate the battleship's damage? I just remember having a stack of Cruisers and BBs and firing on something at maximum range. I separated the cruisers after they fired and they still had the attack timer even when the initial stack they were in that fired, fired beyond their range.

Under that scenario the cruisers would not fire, target is beyond their range.

As outlaw said, they don't deal damage.

...but, since the cruisers were part of the main stack when it fired, they are STILL counted as "having fired" (with the associated cooldwon timer), even though the cruisers didn't do any damage.

The solution is to detach the cruisers from the main stack BEFORE it fires.

Like both of them said but for one thing is they take damage also and that will help extend the life of your battleships.
