How does a player have 5 items on the same territory on day one? If it takes 24 hours to build one item, then it should take 5 days to build 5 items. Am I missing something or does this game have hacks and cheaters like most of the others out there?

Well, he could have an industrial complex, which already is in some of the provinces at the very beginning. He could also have barracks, which take two and a half minutes to build. He could have a naval dockyard, which takes 15 minutes. The fourth and the fifth construction must have been built using gold.
Yes, what Pablo said is correct. The 4th and 5th items were probably accelerated using Gold.
Buildings such as airbase and forts will show up on enemy territory before their build is finished.
