This is as I understand it:
Say you have 1 infantry, and 1 tank, attacking 1 infantry and 1 tank.
Every unit has two sets of battle stats, attacking, and defending. You can find the information in their respective information page, on what has what stats. But naturally, some units do better against others than a different unit would.
For explanation's sake, let's say the infantry have 1 attack against tanks, and 2 against infantry. The tank, again for arguments sake has the same stats.
Your total attack value would be 4 vs infantry, and 2 vs tanks.
Each type of unit has it's own health as well, represented by Morale. The initial contact, so the start of the battle, your 1 tank and 1 infantry will do 4 damage to the enemy infantry, and 2 damage to tanks. The enemy will then do their DEFENSIVE values in damage against you. Which typically, for defending the stats are higher.
After the initial contact, every 60 minutes after that, another "round" will pass, and you'll deal your damage to them, and they'll deal their damage to you. This will continue to go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, until one side has 0 health (morale), and the other one manages to limp onwards to victory.
