Of course you have infrastructure built on your grain provinces? Factories too. Core first since they have the greatest return. Shut off your barracks if you haven't already.....building harbors on your grains gives a slight increase but consumes oil. The nature of the game as you well must know is expansion and after a certain point an army needs more room. You need to consider, when you build, if you can actually afford to maintain your forces.
How do I increase the amount of food I gain without buying or taking land.
I have a massive army so ofc I also have a massive upkeep. I'm in the middle of the game, day 25, my allies are also running low on food and the enemies are trying to starve us out. What can I do to fix this problem? Without invading.

You can allways exchange with your allies or the enemy before attacking him and with the enemy of your enemy, The enemy of my enemy is my friend after all. you can also place a economic sabotage spy wich will give you money and some food if you put him in a province with food. But he steels very little ammounts so it isn't woth it.

Yeah they did steal resources for a while in supremacy, but not anymore. Shame, but I didn't use spies that ofte.
