How does damage distribution work?

Let's say a stack does 50 damage to infantry. If it attacked a 10 stack of different units in the infantry class, would each of those units take 5 damage, or would the units with higher hitpoints take more damage than the units with lower hitpoints.

Each would take 5, approximately. This is why lower HP units die sooner

Yeah, the distribution is determined by the unit count without regard to HP. Here is a bit more info: https://wiki.callofwar.com/wiki/COMBAT#Damage_distribution. Note that the last line of that segment, regarding defensive damage, is a bit confusing/misleading. It says "The defense damage of these armies is summed up before stack limits are applied to prevent advantages from splitting troops.", but I think a clearer explanation would be "The defensive damage power is calculated by combining all defensive stacks as if they were a single stack and taking stack limits of this hypothetical stack into account."
