Units at sea are transport ships. You can even upgrade that unit type! No matter the unit you send to sea, it will be a ship type with the same stats as any other single unit. Ergo, they take damage as ships.

How does transport ships take damage?
Let's say i've made my infantry embark on to a transport ship. And lets say a cruiser attacks it. Does the transport ship take damage as a ship or does it take damage as unarmored from the cruiser?
