If they attack early on it’s difficult. A good idea would be to build defenses on borders with axis countries and have your armies ready. If your forces are defending your homeland you should be able to win. Getting allies for support is always an option. When one country is buys attacking it leaves then open for another to attack. Use good communist units like rocket artillery and make plenty of infantry and millita. Just because they are axis does not mean they will win.
How to counter axis as Comintern in early game?
I want to know how to counter early game attacks by axis countries. Especially when I am playing with the Comintern doctrine. They are always able to overpower me even when they attack and I am defending because of their superior units. What would be some good units or strategies to use to counter these types of attacks?

Fortresses take time and resources to build, and resources are usually tight in the first few days.
Yes but you have commie doctrine, so you can spare enough to build at least a few. Another thing is to make sure you don’t have too many borders when you pick a country. Solo as commie Russia is very hard for this reason. If you only have a few provinces bordering your enemy then it’s a lot easier to defend, and you can spare enough for a fort line. If not you just have to make due with what you have and use homeland defense bonus along with more defensive units to throw them back.Baracuda12 wrote:

Would the Russian Empire be a good starting nation?Carking the 6th wrote:

Yes, you start in a corner away from most countries, your only border being perhaps the worst country in that map. It gives you time, and play your cards right you can pull a W.Baracuda12 wrote:

Thanks! I’ll try it in my next game and keep you posted about it.Carking the 6th wrote:

Good luck! You could probably pull a solo, considering the map type. Or at least that’s what I bet @_Pyth0n_ who is watching us would say!Baracuda12 wrote:

Trade land for time; time is your greatest ally. Also, rocket artillery isn't viable very early game, crank out artillery, infantry/militia (depending on resources and terrain), AT, AA (if enemy has air, if not no need) and ACs (just for scouting, try not to use them to fight unless it is a sure victory)
But with commie doctrine rocket arty will propel you through the mid game. Once you have enough excess to make secret labs, make sure to get it. It’s really strong._Pyth0n_ wrote:

I agree, but OP was asking how to repel early game attacks; for that there is not enough time (usually) for rocket artillery anyways.Carking the 6th wrote:

Fair enough there. But yeah I’d recommend to have it once you go on the offensive, but not against an early axis rush.
