How to fight an air war

Hi All. I am routinely attacking enemy fighter formations with an advantage. 6 on 4 or 5 on two. I just attacked 3 fighters on the ground with 4 fighters and I lost 2 to only minimal damage for the enemy. What am I doing wrong? It seems having stronger forces only equals greater losses for me in the air. This is not a one time thing. Should I put them on patrol above the target instead?

Are there other ground units at target? If so they will absorb and deal damage.

Yes you also have to remember that if you attack planes on the ground with bombers that damage gets spread across all unit and buildings. If you attack planes on the ground with fighters it should only spread damage to the planes as interceptors don't deal damage to any other unit except planes. However if there were other units there capable of doing damage to the interceptors they would and would not receive any in return.

Also be aware that when you attack aircraft on the ground, and those aircraft are not refueling, they will scramble and defend with full strength. You will not see the graphics of them flying but they will defend themselves.

Well this makes much more sense now

Another tactic is to sue stratbombers and take out the airfield they are on, so to prevent them from launching.

However, keep in mind that if there is another airfield in range of the target you are attacking, they will use those to defend themselfs (if they are set to patrol).

So the best thing to do is to take out a few airfields with strats around the intended target so they cant flea, and then hit the airfields where they are stationed at. The rule Dubs stated counts ofr this as well, if the airfield is just that it will get destryed really fast, but if there are more buildings then the dammage gets spread out. In that case it is lethal to stratbombers as they bomb but little will happen, and the airforce will still defnd, thus the strats will get toasted, then caramelised, and then ate. Just to find ouy theyre bitter and you gotha spit them out. (destruction of airfields is rediciliously fast if you use 2 groups of 4 or 5 strats and can be a huge tactical gamechanger not many people use strats because they got no idea of how to use them.)

Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.
