I don't understand how the heal work (with pictures)

Hi everyone!

To improve my knowledge of CoW, I take some printscreen of my armies before and after the new day + the moral of the cities.

I calculate the gain, and I let you look the result; that seem completly random:

Anyone have an idea on how it works?

Thanks,

Yeah, many people don't understand that calculation... but it is 15% of MISSING health.

Your screenshot is kinda hard to read, but the bomber in the first one had:

195 (maximum health) - 168.2 (current health) = 25.2 MISSING health

15% of that is repaired:

15% * 25.2 = 3.78

That is added back to current health:

168.2 + 3.78 ~= 172

Thank for your answer.

The first column, the moral was at 97%, heal before 168.2, after 172.

Second column moral 96%, heal before 47.4, heal after 54.9.

Third column moral 35%, heal before 14.3, after 21.

Effectively, your calcul is good! Thank for your help!

Morale is not related to healing, it's just 15% of lost HP come back at change of day.

The idea is to take your heavily damaged (red and yellow) units out of fighting stacks and send them to home territory to heal. They are heavily damaged, so they heal a significant amount of HP, and your army is moving and fighting better without the damaged units.

Green to the front, red to the back. Pretty easy.

Troops heal on territory owned by you, where you move at normal speed and where you collect taxes and resources. Does not have to be your core territory where you started.

I say "home" to mean areas where there are no active battles. Damaged units can sit there and slowly go from red to yellow, and yellow to green, if you can afford it. If you badly need more units, you can send them forward early. If the front line is doing OK, you can give them more time to heal so they are more effective when they join the fight.

In general, it's good to have a reserve "just in case", so I like to use damaged units as my reserve. While they sit there waiting for something to happen, they are healing for free, so you're getting something useful in return. A fully healthy unit in reserve is just wasting time.
