I have gold enough. Why are spies leaving?

I have had this happen twice now: at day change the spy report comes up and tells me that a spy left because I could not afford to pay him.

Last time I thought I had made a mistake, but this time I checked carefully. Spy panel said upkeep cost was 6k and I had 6,6k cash and no build orders. This was like 1 minute before day change.

Yet after day change there is still a spy leaving because of too little money.

Is something wrong here? Or am I overlooking something?

Something dosnt add up in your story.

Military or economy sabotage cost 4k/day and intelligence cost 2k/day.

How is your upkeep cost 6k/day if you say you only have 1 spie?

I didn't. I had 2 and 1 left.

very interesting. if you had two spies, then the upkeep required would be 12k, more than the 6.6k you had

Then i am not sure if spie upkeep is only 4/2 k per day or those 500 too witch is displeyed as daily upkeep for idleing spies.

Alsoo you were at bottom border, you berly have had any money and think that you were more likely to make a mistake then game itself.

How do you mean 12k?

If he had 1 spie doing lets say military sabotage and one intelligence sabotage that is 6k/day.

You forget upkeep for All other units.

So the spy upkeep required is subtracted from the amount of money you have at day change. For example, If you have 60k money at day change and 72k daily spy fees, you will lose 15k worth of spies (so maybe 6 intel spies) as you cannot pay for their daily upkeep.

stop comment wrong, thread opener had 6 k upkeep and 6.6 k money reserves.

He asked why 1 spy dide leave. Answer is: he forget upkeep for common units. finito.

Alright, thanks for the comments.

The lesson learned here is probably that unit maintenance happens before spy maintenance. Both happens once a day, which I overlooked. I thought it only applied to spies.

In fact I needed around 10k for maintaining both and as there was only money for the army and one spy, the other was disbanded.

But on that account, does anyone know what the effect of insufficient funds for the army is? I've tried running out of funds a few times and it doesn't seem to hurt my armies.

Are you guys sure units money upkeep is drawn out at day change ?

I feel like this upkeep is calculated to adjust the hour per hour output (money and all other ressources).

I don't remember seeing a loss of ressources/money (if no spies) at day change.

A possible explanation I see is that one of your ennemy is also using economic spies on you. Those spies cas steal money too, so maybe this stolen money is calculated before your spies payment and you did not have enough ressources to pay them.

In general I would suggest you to be sure you have definetly enough money to pay you spies. If they cost you 6K, be sure to have at least 15 to 20K money. Then you would not loose them just in case you forgot you had to pay them and launch a production at the very last moment before day change.

IT is not drown, but it calulated before daychange, even if you have this maney, they are reserved for unit upkeep.

That is why your moral drops after daychange if you don't have enough oil and food, even if your stockpile is not full emty.

No,army upkeeps are devided from income,it dosnt work like spies upkeeps.

Right, I'll definetly agree with that.

Even if some members don't seems to make any efforts to understand non native speakers this is what I tried to explain

*replace "drawn out" by "removed", and don't mind the "I feel like" which may not have any sense here*

Anyway, I am back to my only explanation which could explain the loss of spies

It's a good thing the devs removed from newspapers the newly built infrastructures to help players keep their strategy secret but on another hand they removed too much informations such as sabotages and now it's almost impossible to know where enemy spies could be. You need to check every city, every day to realise a building have been damaged by military spies (which I just don't do) and it's impossible to notice any ressources lost through economic sabotage.

But this is another debate, let's not speak about it in this thread.

I just mention it as it could be a possible reason of money loss, and I am convinced this stolen money is calculated before spies income. It's almost impossible to check it out too as it doesn't appear in the newspapers.

Check your manpower and oil stockpile at daychange, you could be suprized...

You're right Last Warrior but this upkeep is adjusted at day change. The needed ressources are not removed from your stock pile at day change !

So you will produce less money/whatever during the new day but there is no reason your output goes negative since 1.5 games cause if you have a low ressources output you just can't build new units and thus degrade a bit more your output...

OK you can actually ! By buying those ressources on the market, but we are talking about money. The money you need to pay your spies. So I can't see how your money output can drop in the red.

I never had negative output since 1.5 games when it was pretty common in 1.0 games through population upkeep.

Lose of own province before daychange is another possible answer for lost cash reserves.

Indeed but this penalty is calculated at day change and then will affect your output for the coming day.

You must have a negative money output at day change for not beeing able to pay your spies. And still, it will not affect your spies payment as we are talking about a "T-Time" which is day change. In our concrete case we are talking about, the player had the required money to pay his spies at day change, no money is removed from his stockpile from upkeep at the exact time of calculation. It can't explain the loss of spies.
