It should give it to you automatically. Either it's a bug, or maybe you didn't win it 'cos you were the only one.

The past is a foreign country.
I've won a round, but I'm not sure how to get the gold reward.
I came in first (I'm sure of it, says so) but it was a server where everyone went inactive and I won via retiring.
(For all you fans of my other thread where I document my invasion of another player, no, it's not the same server, rest assured that there will be more anschlussing!)
So since I retired as the last person left on the server, do I still get gold? If so, then how?
It's the first round I've ever won (although I'm close to winning in a few other servers) so I'm not sure how this all works.

Maybe so...
In that server, everyone just went inactive and I thought I could grab a quick, easy reward.

Take a look in the newspaper, there is your reward posted. 
And take a look up here - your reward depends on your victory points:
