In Depth opening strategy guide for Japan on the 100-player map?

Hello everyone I have another question.

I wish to play as Japan on the 100-player map and i require an in depth guide.

I realise the way to win is to have a powerful early navy but I need more information.

Thank you everyone.

What information is it that you're seeking? Depending on what you're trying to do, you will require different strategies.

Lets just say for the sake of argument that you're looking for information on making a stronger Navy. Here's the methods I would use to build a strong navy for the long haul.

1. Invest heavily in rare material, oil, metal and goods production. You will need these for research, production and maintaining your fleet. DON'T FORGET FOOD! (so basically everything)

2. Always keep your research tickers busy...down time is your enemy in the long run

3. Build a balanced navy, don't rely too heavily on one type of ship.

4. Decide if you're going with a defensive or attack strategy with your naval fleet.

5. Don't build too many sea ports. Too many will significantly affect you oil consumption and lower the number of ships you can have out there

I could keep going but this is a good starting point without going too deep into details and strategies.

Okay. Thank you this is quite useful.

My main concern is that Korea will attack me before I can develop a strong navy.

Once again thank you.

Admiral Okami,

I actually planned to mention something about Korea. I've played the 100 player map several times, and I'd say about half the time I've seen Korea invade Japan. I would suggest at least be prepared. I assume a lot of people playing Japan make the faulty assumption that they are safe from attack early on.

Well, I've never seen anyone do it. More like Manchukuo taking over Korea (having small countries is not the best). Japan, of course, is a hard country to use since people automatically (dunno why) target the major countries of WW2, even though many people using those countries are noobs (no offense to anyone who used it). Even just island countries in general (except if you're UK) is hard since you are prone from attack to your core all the time since you are an island. Japan is even harder since there are many islands, and you never know which ones the enemy will hit first, and if unfortunately the enemy hits with force on one island, well, your reinforcements can't really get there in time.

Basically:

Good: Isolated so a bit of delay before the invasion

Bad: Is island group so prone to attacks from many places

How to solve: Focus on airforce and navy.

As Japan, I believe you don't really need tanks early game (although I never played Japan before) but subs on day 1 is a must (for research). Having a decent airforce in the Japan mainland (and rockets) can annihilate the enemy forces since they are stuck on an island until they reach another one - ISOLATION. Have subs and other naval troops first occupying sea spaces between islands and potential routes to attack Asian mainland. I would suggest you start research in navy by subs, then cruisers (coastal bombing), destroyers, and then battleship. Battleship is good late game, but not early game since it uses a lot of resources. For airforce, you obviously are forced to start with interceptors, but then this is important: When going to lvl 2, go naval bombers first since they can effectively scout subs and have HUGE range of sight, which makes your defense effort more efficient.

Invasion tactics: this really depends on what resources you wanna take, but I would suggest Korea first and attack on east and south because:

1. small land so easy for quick takeovers

2. east and south most convenient boarding points

3. invade no-resource provinces (or non-strategic provinces) first cos that's usually undefended early game. prepare some arti and anti air with inf and anti tank (if you're sure the enemy will prefer tanks over everything). would prefer jeju if u want a base to start with, uruchin and gensan (eastern no-resource provinces) or if you're absolutely sure your armies are tough and invincible, go for koshu to cripple Korea's rare ore supply and potentially attack busan and two resource provinces, one of them a double food.
