They stay on patrol as long as you keep them on patrol. The attack clock hits every 15 minutes and the planes will deal 25% damage to any unit in the patrol range 'disc'.

Interceptor Patrol Time?
HI- How long to interceptors stay on patrol? Does it matter what level they are?

The higher the level the more damage they deal out and the better armor they have.
