Continue researching, already built units get the new level and becomes stronger.dmc365 wrote:

Some units have strength differences depending on terrain.
The "i"nfo symbols in the research tree shows you details for every unit / level.
Select the unit / level in the left-hand side, then click the "i" nfo button on the right.
Also the newspaper on day 0 shows some info:
