Managing in game conversations - how do I delete?

My conversation list is growing long, and I would like to delete some of the older conversations that are no longer applicable, especially as there appears to be a limit. I can check mark them, and I found I can close them, but there is no delete. Is there a point in time when closed threads simply go away or is there another step I am missing?
