NPC Shared Maps

Is it really a thing here to share maps with NPC's and invade others from unexpected places. This is happening and was unexpected. Personally I find this very underhanded and downright wrong. How does one prepare for such a thing. Should on constantly expect to defend themselves from the NPC's as well, at least their areas, seeing as anyone can use this. This confounds and upsets me.

Constant Vigilance!

This is a war game. Expect your opponents to be sneaky and underhanded. The only safety is in eliminating the enemy.

So now that you know to expect it you will know what to watch out for. If you see players whose country is not contiguous it is worth a closer look to see whose territory they are crossing to get there.

To get Right of Way by the AI, go to diplomacy and switch your own status there to RoW (or Shared Map) and wait, the AI will give you RoW after some days, but not always all AI nations do so, and on some maps the AI never gives RoW to any player.

Incidentally, Shared Map is never available from "normal" AI, but sometimes on maps with "elite" AI.

And independent of all that, the AI nations often have RoW or Shared Map among themselves.

Yep, know how to do this now.

Just got surprise attacked through a NPC country and slowly bombed them away as my ground was elsewhere. Lesson learned. Had no idea that was even possible.

AI also have perfect knowledge of all live players force dispositions. Often will send units to attack empty provinces. Knowing that, clever players often move troops out of provinces, wait for the AI to advance, then pounce.
