Question

Hi, I'm playing as the United Kingdom in my first game of CoW. Across the sea from me is France. He is an active player, he's built buildings, he's in a coalition with experienced lvl 40 players (which will be a problem), but I scouted him with my planes and he has not made any units. Back in Britain I have 40 units ready to cross the sea and invade. Should I go ahead and attack him now or wait until day 4? Or maybe I should just fortify Britain and keep building units? What should I do?

By the way, France is level 2 and so am I. I'm playing on a Clash of Nations map. It is the beginning of day 2.

Thanks!

Update: I formed a secret alliance with Southern United States, who is currently annexing the NSA

Update #2: I invaded Belgium and Luxembourg, meanwhile I'm researching SP Artillery. France is still not attacking anything

Cross immediately and attack him, you will be surprised how easy it will be.

When the enemy is driven back, we have failed. When he is cut off, encircled and dispersed, we have succeeded.

Ah I see, thank you

But the real problem is his allies, both of them are experienced players and will back him up

Unless his Allies are very close by, it will be difficult for them to come to his aid. Usually, Allies mean they won't attack him and probably are allowing him to have an unprotected border.

Same as above coalition partners seldom help and often more harm than good

Anyway, it's day 4, I have the largest army at 64 units, and France went AI as I suspected

We attack in six hours

Update #3: war has been declared, I'm shredding his coastal troops with my navy, my army is on its way to Paris!

With some luck we should soon be parading down the champs-elysees

Update #4: Unfortunately Italy who was France's ally backstabbed him as soon as he became AI and we are now in a race to take France's cities, he will probably get most of them because Allies doctrine has the speed debuff :( At least I can snag Paris for sure, and maybe Bordeaux

Update #5: Paris will fall in four minutes. I also grabbed Nancy and Bordeaux. Italy isn't active. I think he's sleeping.

Update #6: There are only six remaining active players. In order of ranking they are:

1. Libya, 150 VP

2. Italy, 100 VP

3. Greater Finland, 100 VP

4. Me (United Kingdom), 90 VP at daychange but now 110

5. Southern United States, 80 VP

6. Caucasus, 60 VP

This is pretty much the standard way games unfold.

3-5 neighbors (depending on map size) create a coalition on day 1. They don't know each other, and they have no plans to support each other. The thinking does: if I'm part of a coalition, then I can relax because I feel safe.

Fast forward to day 3, and most of the coalition hasn't done anything. Maybe they sent their starting units to die in disorganized battles. Maybe they did nothing at all. Their cities and units sit there, collecting dust. The game AI takes over half the coaliton.

Fast forward to day 4, and the players who did "something" on day 1 but nothing after that are now also AI controlled.

You don't have to wait until day 4 to know this is how the movie ends. You can see it right away. Was there any construction in France on day 1, or is the only structure in France the capital in Paris? This tells you evertything you need to know. That player closed the game minutes after it started, and they are never coming back. Why wait? Invade him immediately. Take his cities and all the resources and money before the AI takes control. The more you wait, the more AI will waste your resources and build units to slow down your conquest. Plus other players will come in. For some reason, there are a lot of people who like to attack AI countries but don't like to touch other players. Even though the AI fights better than 99% of human players in CoW.

So, don't wait, identify neighboring inactives as soon as the game starts, and get to work clearing the land with your cruisers and artillery.

Well he built some production buildings in all his cities but he was probably AI by day 2. You're right, I should have attacked earlier

Now it's day 15 and I'm at war with Libya who has 250 points. I have superiority on land and in the air but Libya has a powerful naval fleet of 10 level 4 battleships. I tried to engage them with naval bombers and submarines but my ships just got sunk. I lost half of my navy and his ships barely took a scratch. I am now force marching my remaining ships out of the way to try and salvage them.

What should I do? I simply don't have the resources to make a fleet like his, and as long as he has naval superiority I can't attack. Please advise.

Thanks

close to game , join a new historical 30p map , choose germany or soviet union build tanks and attack randomly everywhere

you dont need to wait 15 days to experience something on game

Okay thanks!

Don't listen to that guy.

Learn the basics on a 22 player Europe map. Learn how to win wars without losing units. How to use land and naval artillery to kill opposing units for free. What to research, and when. How to defend, take advantage of terrain and doctrine bonuses.

You'll know you're ready when you can solo a 22 player map with ease.

Stay away from the Historical map, because that teaches you terrible habits. You'll never learn how to be effective in a fair match, when you don't start with a Germany to Poland type of advantage. If the only games you can win are the games an AI could win, then there's no point in participating on that map.

22p map is boring and fill with AI , do you want to wait for many days to research something to fight against AI ??

you can learn what you need from historical map with fun , you cant learn something without fun

LOL

The only thing you will learn on the Historical map is that countries that start with an advantage can win easily, even if you don't know what you're doing. So if you want to feel powerful, go ahead and play as Germany or Japan, attack everyone, then get bored and close the game like everyone else does.

NB and Subs if his BB are moving around without support, they should be an easy target with up leveled navy bombers and subs. Use a sub to track them and stay from the coast

We have some real sassypants in this thread!

Compromise... start a historical map and pick Tibet or Turkey, and learn how to fight back against Germany and Japan.

Yeah that sounds good except I expect I’d have to take 2-3maybe4,5 game loosing streak. But true I’ve learned more from my defeats. Victories just make my head swell.
