Not sure if this was asked before but can troops be ordered to retreat if we realize that they bit more than they can chew or is that a waste of time and better to follow up with another unit/stack. I've tried it once and it seemed that they could not break contact? 
I'm afraid you cannot pull out of a battle once contact is made. You can reinforce the battle if more units arrive. You can reinforce the stack itself if those units arrive from the same direction
Try scouting with fast units like armored cars to see how big the enemy armies are so you don't bite off more than you can chew.Leadpiper wrote:
