Yes they do. 
They have an attacking attack stats, and defense attack. I hope that made sense...

Strength Bonuses
Do strength bonuses apply to a unit when attacking or defending? i.e. Militia receive a bonus in forests and light tanks receive a bonus on plains. Or do they both receive a bonus whether attacking or defending on those particular terrains?

What about militia in a fort in a wooded area - do they all add together?

Fort does not increase strength (damage). It makes units more resistant to enemy damage.

but they (militia) still get the 'woods' bonus?
